Chicken costumes banned at Nev. polling places (Not from The Onion)

"RENO, Nev. - Voters dressed in chicken costumes won't be allowed inside Nevada polling places this year.

State election officials on Friday added chicken suits to the list of banned items after weeks of ridicule directed at Republican Senate candidate Sue Lowden.

The millionaire casino executive and former beauty queen recently suggested that people barter with doctors for medical care, like when "our grandparents would bring a chicken to the doctor."

Democrats responded by setting up a website, "Chickens for Checkups," and by sending volunteers in chicken suits to her campaign events..."

1. How bout a T-shirt?
An armband? a button?

Where will it stop?
As long as someone doesnt block me from voting, I see no problem with it.

Another RW try at controlling people

3. State laws vary on electioneering:
Passive electioneering is the act of wearing campaign paraphernalia or carrying signs to a polling place with the intent of influencing voters. Across the United States laws vary relating to passive electioneering.<1> In the fall of 2008, officials in Virginia moved to ban the wearing of campaign paraphernalia. New York has a similar law in place.

In 2008, internet political organizers are cautioning voters not to wear campaign t-shirts at the polls.<2> Organizers calculate that these obscure laws will be used to turn voters away from the polls.

2. No electioneering in polling places
This is consistent with the rules in place. However, there is a buffer zone outside of which chicken suits are totally allowed.

19. I don't know what the procedure is in Nevada
But in Texas, where we have a similar law, we do post distance markers 100 feet away from the door to mark the "no electioneering" zone.

20. One would imagine it is a federal law, at least in any election where federal offices are involved
And there are lots of good reasons for it. I have busted a few election judges for not avoiding partisan activities at polling places over the years.

I gave up being an election official when the guy in charge of the counting crew (yes, still by hand with hand marked ballots) ran into the room we were working in and announced that we had to find more votes for the GOP gubernatorial candidate and also the one for senate. No point in blowing the whistle on that as the number of votes in that county was VERY small and nobody would have batted an eye about the report of his blatantly partisan behavior there abouts.

12. Could they wear hats with tiny little rubber chickens on strings
that seems to be the type of decorations that are popular. After all the tea bags wear their tea bags hanging from their hats.
