A message from Chief Arvol Looking Horse
Edited on Sat May-22-10 09:03 PM by G_j
some of you may appreciate this:

http://www.examiner.com/x-46274-Spiritual-Leaders-Examiner~y2010m5d22-Chief-Arvol-Looking-Horse-asks-us-to-join-together-in-healing-the-Gulf-Oil-Spill-video

The following letter was just sent by Chief Arvol Looking Horse (Keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe) to the world’s religion and spiritual leaders. It asks us all to help in healing the Gulf of Mexico oil spill as well as all the other disasters humans have created on our Mother Earth. Please read this and consider doing your part, whatever that might be.

My Relatives,

Time has come to speak to the hearts of our Nations and their Leaders. I ask you this from the bottom of my heart, to come together from the Spirit of your Nations in prayer.

We, from the heart of Turtle Island, have a great message for the World; we are guided to speak from all the White Animals showing their sacred color, which have been signs for us to pray for the sacred life of all things. As I am sending this message to you, many Animal Nations are being threatened, those that swim, those that crawl, those that fly, and the plant Nations, eventually all will be affected from the oil disaster in the Gulf.

The dangers we are faced with at this time are not of spirit. The catastrophe that has happened with the oil spill which looks like the bleeding of Grandmother Earth, is made by human mistakes, mistakes that we cannot afford to continue to make.

I asked, as Spiritual Leaders, that we join together, united in prayer with the whole of our Global Communities. My concern is these serious issues will continue to worsen, as a domino effect that our Ancestors have warned us of in their Prophecies.

I know in my heart there are millions of people that feel our united prayers for the sake of our Grandmother Earth are long overdue. I believe we as Spiritual people must gather ourselves and focus our thoughts and prayers to allow the healing of the many wounds that have been inflicted on the Earth. As we honor the Cycle of Life, let us call for Prayer circles globally to assist in healing Grandmother Earth (our Unc'I Maka).

We ask for prayers that the oil spill, this bleeding, will stop. That the winds stay calm to assist in the work. Pray for the people to be guided in repairing this mistake, and that we may also seek to live in harmony, as we make the choice to change the destructive path we are on.

As we pray, we will fully understand that we are all connected. And that what we create can have lasting effects on all life.

So let us unite spiritually, All Nations, All Faiths, One Prayer. Along with this immediate effort, I also ask to please remember June 21st, World Peace and Prayer Day/Honoring Sacred Sites day. Whether it is a natural site, a temple, a church, a synagogue or just your own sacred space, let us make a prayer for all life, for good decision making by our Nations, for our children's future and well-being, and the generations to come.

Onipikte (that we shall live),

Chief Arvol Looking Horse
19th generation Keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe
(www.Wolakota.org)
May we all find our way to be of service in this time of healing our beloved Mother Earth.

You could have stopped right here:

If somebody posted a bunch of Catholic theological ramblings emanating from the Pope here they'd be rightfully ridiculed

4. Why? I have no patience for the Noble Savage myth.
It demeans Native Americans by turning them into precious little cartoons rather than acknowledging that they were complex people with all the same failings and weaknesses as the rest of us. It's a destructive myth, and not one that should be tolerated.

Some people lived in better harmony with nature, and just because they did not have washing machines and cars, does not mean they were inferior to us.

33. Actually, YOU are the one displaying astonishing ignorance here
"romanticized primitivism"? what an immature, asinine comment. If you had spent any time at all inside a reservation actually lISTENING to the people you would discover that you're racist perceptions are as far from the truth as it gets. Yes, many traditional people do speak the way the author in the OP has. It's a cultural distinction, it's sincere, and obviously it's not directed at someone as small minded and hate filled as you are. Your arrogance, bigotry and ignorance are what's sad here. Absolutely disgusting.

24. The days of only posting to DU from home
are long gone; my original post was made while with friends. We boardgame geeks are notorious multitaskers.

As an aside; I would question the efficaciousness of making a snarky comment about people being online on a Saturday night while you yourself are online on that same Saturday night -- rookie mistake, man. Rookie mistake.

You're talking about members of my family who grew up on reservations and are STILL fighting government takeovers of their land. You seriously need to show a shred of class and respect for your fellow human beings. They've suffered enough from the likes of you already. :grr:

28. See..I still don't think she wants to do that....
(not that I'd blame her...there are more than a few I'd like to shake off this planet!)

I still see this as our pivotal moment. This is awakening time for ALL of humanity. Call me crazy but in spite of this awful horrible bleeding out.....I still have hope. Not for all of the stooopid humans but for Gaia. Things may not be the same in the Gulf for a long time, but I do feel there is technology out there that can mitigate and heal.

Maybe if the oil corporations continue to lose enough power, they can stop preventing technologies and creative scientists to bring these helpful & healing technologies to the public. I wonder how many patents have been bought out by the oil interests over the years.....starting with Tesla and free energy. I just don't think it is too late. And I won't (can't) accept that Mother Earth will go like this.

Big tipping point for humanity & the planet and I refuse to give up. Like I said ...call me crazy.

(Oh SW...I'm so sorry my one comment upset you...:loveya::hug::grouphug:

38. Your view is one I share. I still have hope, also.
Yep. The warning lights are on and beeping is constant. Pivotal moment, big tipping point, and awakening for all humanity.

I know the situation is dire, but this is when people press forward in science and research, and expand the known technologies. The problem is man-made and man must also devise the solution. (Just for the record - in the future, they should do that in reverse order. Better yet, quit with the drilling and mining and so on...) What if those creative scientists and brilliant engineers were REWARDED for "helpful & healing technologies" instead of being shunned, silenced and punished by Big Corp? This would be a whole different place. We have to start thinking about all this differently - especially government and business. But we can help.

Chief Arvol's words are wise and invite us to share in the search for a solution. I would never underestimate the power of individuals and communities joining together in prayer and meditation for the success of the work and the healing of the planet. It's very powerful, although not fully understood or appreciated in our society.

We're all in this together

My thanks to G_j for posting this message from Chief Arvol Looking Horse.

I'm glad you won't give up. I'm sorry I'm such a downer. I'd love to witness a genuine tipping point, an awakening. I just can't feel any sense of it happening.

Please don't apologize about your other post -- it didn't upset me, like I said in JR's thread it just hit my psyche like a blow. And I *knew* that a line had been crossed, a point of no return, and an inexorable force had been set in motion.

Maybe it will lead to enlightenment, maybe it will lead to destruction, and maybe they are the same thing. It just feels like, one way or another, we have sealed our fate.

There's an ancient (Anasazi?) petroglyph in the Southwest -- maybe you know the one I'm talking about. It shows sort of a symbolic timeline that eventually ends in two branches. One path leads to what's been interpreted as being a state of living in harmony on the earth. The other path appears to lead to a violent end.

I cannot shake the feeling that humanity has reached that branch in the timeline and has set upon the latter path. The choice has been made, and it's too late now.

Please forgive my pessimism.

edited to add: That doesn't mean I won't be adding my prayers to Arvol Looking Horse's prayer. I will keep love for the earth alive in my heart always.

I have respect for the aboriginal people who had respect for the earth.

After all, one of the Indian tribes came up with the concept of the Seventh Generation ---- something rich white business men intent on cheating and stealing to gain as much money as they can no matter what the cost, could never do.

And those who do not get it, the loss is yours.

if we made our important choices always keeping in mind future generations, things would be quite different.
