CAIRO — An American-Yemeni cleric whose Internet sermons are believed to have helped inspire attacks on the U.S. has advocated the killing of American civilians in an al-Qaeda video released today.

Anwar al-Awlaki has been singled out by U.S. officials as a key terrorist threat and has been added to the CIA’s list of targets for assassination despite his American citizenship. He is of particular concern because he is one of the few English-speaking radical clerics able to explain to young Muslims in America and other Western countries the philosophy of violent jihad.

The U.S.-born al-Awlaki moved to Yemen in 2004 and is in hiding there after being linked to the suspects in the November shooting at an Army base in Fort Hood, Texas, and the December attempt to blow up a U.S. jetliner bound for Detroit. “Those who might be killed in a plane are merely a drop of water in a sea,” he said in the video in response to a question about Muslim groups that disapproved of the airliner plot because it targeted civilians.

2. Finish Him!
Mortal Combat.

If we know for sure he said it, I'm fine with sending missile up his ass at the first opportunity.

4. Report: Radical Imam Detained at JFK Airport in 2002
Edited on Mon May-24-10 05:36 AM by dipsydoodle
The radical Muslim imam who ministered to at least three Sept. 11 hijackers, the Fort Hood shooter and the Nigerian accused of trying to blow up a U.S. jet on Christmas Day, was taken into custody at New York's JFK Airport on a felony arrest warrant in 2002.

Even though Anwar al-Awlaki had been on the FBI's radar for years, he was let go, most likely because of intervention by Saudi Arabia, classified documents and interviews reveal. Now he continues to train new "martyrs" in Yemen.

"We were stunned" that he was let go, said Ray Fournier, a federal agent who has been tracking Awlaki as part of a joint terrorism task force. "He was a high-value target. Everybody was excited about the prospect of hooking this guy up under a charge to motivate a conversation with him regarding his relationship with the hijackers."

Awlaki, 38, was born in New Mexico and raised as a teen in Yemen. Fournier, then a Diplomatic Security Service agent, discovered that he lied about his place of birth on an application for a U.S. Agency for International Development grant, receiving $20,000 a year to attend engineering classes at Colorado State University in the early 1990s. Awlaki turned to radical Islam instead, preaching at mosques in Fort Collins, Colo., and San Diego.

I make no apologies for the Fox News link. I was channel flicking here in the UK last night and came across their feature on the subject including interviews with the FBI agent mentioned above.

6. No Mercy If A Clear Shot Presents Itself
No mercy for al-Awlaki if the opportunity for a clear, clean shot presents itself--he deserves the same sort of rough handling some of the now-dead right-wing wackos received when they put their messages of hate into practice.

If al-Awlaki wants to live by the sword, I hope that the professionals in the US military give him the maximum opportunity to die by the sword.
