Obama Orders Entire Oil Industry to Gulf - Suspends all Licenses Until they Prove they can Contain
Edited on Mon May-24-10 12:26 PM by ShamelessHussy
Clean up, and stop, an Ongoing Disaster.

Imagine that headline.

But I am sure that the president doesn't have that kinda authority anymore, and I am just a liberal dreamer.

Who else I wonder has that kinda dream right now?

:hi:

BTW: K&R this to keep it at the top, since the more people who see this as a possibility, the more likely it will at least be discussed as a possibility. At least to get more folks thinking BOLD!

6. Transport the necessary equipment. Including the submersibles OTHER countries have and bring it
on site. There ARE submersibles that deal with these situations but none in the US. Get one here.

Marines to lay down straw along the beaches.

A USN ship to have Veep Biden on site kicking ass on BP executives. Get them out of their boardroom onto a nearby ship and make them sweat.

I'd have the British ambassador on that ship as well. Put the heat on them.

11. You realize the USN is on site
with pollution control teams?

You also realize that the USCG is there with ships that are scooping goo from the water.

Oh wait, the meme is that they are just sitting pretty. Sorry for inserting some reality... on my way now.

15. Yes. I do. But we need to get folks in there protecting the beaches and need to have
BP, Interior execs out there smelling the oil. I'd put them on a ship with Biden with him giving them the red ass.

...and getting their marching orders from BP.

23. Maybe you should stop listeing to rumors
and actually check on the Incident command system (Thad Allen, USCG is in command) and what they are actually doing.

Granted PR is not their strong point, but they are a tad busy right now.

maybe the leaders need to listen to the people who are demanding MORE be done

35. This reminds me of... insert disaster here
where people demand, demand demand, and even the media spreads rumors. Sorry...

But been around the block a few to know that what CBS reported is not the truth. What did Twain say? Yep, a lie will be around the world before the truth has time to start moving.

Look I am familiar with the incident command system and as I said, if there is a problem with the US Government response is not that they're sitting around doing nothing, all rumors to the contrary, is that they suck at PR.

And they suck majorly at PR.

Here you go... perhaps you should like check this site.

36. ic, you go with your gut. well, i go with reported stories, and my own eyes and ears
helps me to better separate the signal from the noise. but to each his own i suppose.

BTW: i didn't say they are 'doing nothing' (straw-man) I (and many others) say they aren't doing enough.

also, i am not impressed with information from a PR website (deepwaterhorizonresponse.com) again i prefer to get my information from independent sources, not PR tools.

18. Contain, Clean, and Stop the Leak - Our Military Has a LOT of Experience dealing with well blowouts
and working with contractors in the industry that do it for a living, too.

remember the wars in the persian gulf?

Burning Iranian oil platforms in the Sirri and Sassan oil fields , shelled during Operation Praying Mantis on April 18, 1988.

A destroyed Iraqi tank rests near a series of oil well fires during the Gulf War, in this Saturday, March 9, 1991 file photo in northern Kuwait.

our military has plenty of recent experience with this kinda thing... sure this is deep water, and that makes it more challengeing, but they are not unaware of these kinds of situations.

reckless, and that's why we have this leak. They cannot be trusted.

But we're use to getting jerked around by corporate America so we shouldn't be disappointed.

They run Washington, not the people, and that's just the way it is.

16. The headline right below it will detail $10/gal gas prices and shortages nationwide.
Your dream is not an option as the "Oil Industry" would only have to hold out for a week or two before public outcry for fuel forced Obama to rescind any such orders. What recourse would Obama have against the aggregate oil industry to force them to obey any commands... boycott? lol. America is simply too dependant on oil to make too many bold demands so quickly.

Edited on Mon May-24-10 12:22 PM by nichomachus
That order is already in place, waiting to be used, and has been for years. The president of the US can put it into force with the stroke of a pen.

I thought this *was* a real headline...

Ya, that's what I want to see NOW . There is no reason for us to keep drilling ...alll hands should be on deck in the gulf, period. I 10000% agree.

so how do we get that to happen, really? any ideas....?
A strongly worded leter to the white house ain't gonna do it. Perhaps we need to sic Alan Grayson on them?

Of course, the Supreme Court struck this down:

But I'm sure Obama could do something short of nationalization

32. If he declared them 'terrorists' (which is an entirely undefined term),
he could have them arrested and renditioned. He could torture them, seize their assets, do pretty much anything any unitary imperialist executive could think of...

but they'll save that for the powerless likes of John Walker Lindh.
