CT Poll: Blumenthal 55, Mcmahon 40 |
|
Granted this is Blumenthal's own poll, so take with a grain of salt. That said, the fact that the poll has him kicking ass is always a good thing, even if its his own poll. if his own poll had him up by 3, then Id be a little worried. http://www.pollster.com/blogs/ct_2010_sen_blumenthal_51920.php

1. Why won't the media, particularly the NY Rag Times do its job and |
|
ask McMahon if she knew her employees were taking illegal drugs?

Richard Blumenthal has assisted many throughout his career. Linda McMahon has a long line of corpses in her path.

11. Once the stuff on McMahon starts coming out, it's gonna get ugly fast! |
|
He'll trounce her by more than 15 points, that's for sure. he's got so many people around the state that would be happy to tell their own stories about how they were fighting against some unjust powerful interest and Dick B. came to their aid. He's battled against the polluters, the banksters, the anti-choicers, the electric companies, and the bureaucracies that would deny veterans and their families the benefits they earned, and that's just a partial list. Everyone in CT has benefitted by his fine work.
Linda's got wrestling and scandal and no experience of doing anything FOR anybody except herself. A mudslide created by her will come down on her and bury her politically...

there are no dead people, there aren't any prostitutes lining up or children claiming any kind of abuse.
In the grand scheme of things what he did was nothing. This was a massive snowjob foisted on people by what will become an even more desperate campaign of slime by Linda McMahon and her cronies.

7. Lying is nothing? How do we feel about it when Republicans lie? |
|
Or is lying only nothing when a Democrat does it?
So are dead people, prostitutes lined up, or children abused where the bar is now and anything not over that is ok?
He lied and admitted he lied. That's pretty clear. I know I was taught that lying is not good and I expect more from Democrats. It's sad to see people need to explain it away because it was not something worse.

8. It's nothing because it was a hit piece |
|
placed by an opposition campaign designed to get people all worked up over some meaningless shit. It was a small part of a single speech in which he later said he did not serve in Vietnam. I haven't seen any other documented cases of Blumenthal saying that he specifically served In Vietnam, just this one and it's not even close to the whole speech.
Blumenthals deferments and subsequent enlistment in the Marine Reserves are common knowledge. If he told this "lie" on any kind of regular basis do you think it would take a campaign like McMahons this long to dig up at least one concrete example other than a two year old speech? Her campaign is filled with the "best" of puke opposition research, I wouldn't be surprised if that asshole tried to dig up and reanimate the corpse of Lee Atwater to try to dig up dirt on Blumenthal.

9. If it was nothing, why did he have to admit to anything? Why? |
|
Why did he feel the need to puff up his military experience at all, like he was one of the guys. Any male who was of draft age during Vietnam knows and knew full well what enlisting in the reserves meant.

12. Because a bunch of people |
|
suggested that he put it behind him to concentrate on the campaign. If he tried to explain in detail exactly what the speech said People would remember it the way McMahon was trying to portray it. Sometimes it's just easier to say screw it, sorry about that.
The average voter in this country does not like nuance, they don't like having to think about why something is the way it is. The average voter in this country has the attention span of a gnat. They don't care that the quote is some two years old and they don't care that it was a speech given to a roomful of veterans who probably would call Blumenthal on a pattern of lies relating to military service if they saw it.

15. What is different about this case . . . |
|
is that, while Blumenthal exaggerated on a few occasions, that was not, as the Times suggested, his pattern. According to witnesses and the reporters who covered him, on dozens or hundreds of other occasions he characterized his service accurately--often stating, "I did not serve in Vietnam."

and it would still be bullshit and it would die off in a week or two just as this is. It's an idiotic bit of nothing, simple politics plain and simple.
This statement was never a pattern, it was pulled out of a single speech given two years ago to a veterans group. All the whining and moaning isn't going to turn it into a big deal.

18. I've known the guy for more than 20 years, have you? Do you even LIVE in CT? |
|
He has worked tirelessly for the people of CT. He is the MODEL of a Progressive Democrat. He has done admirable work for veterans in CT and been exemplary on ALL of the issues we care about here on DU.
Why is it that you believe this shit and not what real progressives on this board who live and breathe the political air and VOTE, goddammit, in CT have to say?
This is sad. You can't even see how you are playing into the hands of the right wing smear machine...dear god...
