Most Americans Want Offshore Drilling to Continue...
AND...

most Americans think the government cannot prevent another disaster.

Absent from the poll generating these results (reported by CNN) are these questions:

"Do you think Big Oil has the technology to drill offshore and ensure that another disaster will not happen?"

"Do you think BP lied to the government by falsely claiming they did indeed have the technology to ensure a disaster would not occur and if one did, they'd be readily able to handle the disaster?"

"Do you think the government has abdicated their authority over Big Oil (occurring primarily during the Bush Administration) and has no power to hold BP accountable?"

The complexity of this situation is vast and most Americans can't even begin to wrap their heads around it. The simplicity of the two poll questions and the way CNN reported the results make this fact abundantly clear.

4. If it's a CNN poll then it must be most Americans who still watch CNN
and believe everything they hear on it. Those Americans aren't very bright.

11. Apparently most Americans are dumb as rocks.
The risk/payback is just not there.

Oh, here's an idea - make the oil companies pay for the actual risk cost, then see if it's in their interest to drill. So, "here oilco's, drill all you want, it's going to cost you this much". "Uh, never mind."

13. Not one person I know thinks this type of drilling should continue.

Sometimes I wonder where "they" (the pollsters) get their interviewees. Who did they poll?

I simply cannot believe this poll.

But then, I don't believe most of them anyway.

I bet this is one factor why a lot of us come here to the DU, because we seek to be with a crowd of non idiots.
