Even though he looks like a grown adult, if you look into his eyes you can see he is just a kid.

Go to the website and read about these children.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/whenkidsgetlife/

The stories are heartbreaking. I know kids don't fully realize the ramifications of their actions, but for some of these kids, they were failed by everyone and THEN were sent away for LIFE. Yes kids need consequences, but this is over the line IMHO.

I will be tuning in and I hope some DUers do, too.

14. nope not so open minded my brains fall out is all.
I'd rather spend the 100,000 of thousands of dollars spent on a single convicted murderer teen or not and move it into helping thousands of needy kids and give them a better more deserving life.

6. Sexually assault a child, you deserve to die
sorry, the child is a hero.

Using the same logic if you'd heard the child fended off a sexual attack.

3. Im not sure what to say, I will try to watch the show to learn more..
A young man my son went to school with was driving drunk and killed someone, he got life, he was only seventeen, according to my son he was kind of quiet, nerdy but a nice kid otherwise, he doesn't like too many people so I take this as truth about this boys underlying character..

How do you feel about that decision?

8. there are those who believe
that those who make a mistake -- regardless of age or the situation they found themselves in that got them in hot water -- shouldn't be afforded a second chance ... until they themselves make a mistake and find themselves looking down the barrel of that No Second Chances gun. Amazing how quickly their tune changes once they find themselves up that creek in a leaky boat without a paddle. Suddenly it'll be "but where's my second chance? don't I get to try again? Please, I'm a good person and I just made a mistake!"

Cold-hearted, ignorant, unforgiving idiots.

13. The real problem is two fold

a "zero tolerance" attitude that removes the role of the judge... and over zealous prosecutors that over-charge every crime.

In the case of the kid pictured, I'm guessing the only charge was 1st degree murder (and not manslaughter or some other crime) and the sentencing guidelines only allow Life with no parole.
