How many Repubs would vote for Civil Rights today?
Gotta hand it to Paul. At least he was honest. To me this issue is the elephant always in the room. If Civil Rights were the issue today, how many Repubs would vote for it? The talk radio screamers would be screaming about states' rights, and the number of Repubs who would vote for said legislation? None.

But no commentator would dare ask a Repub, especially a Southern Repub, the question. For one, an honest answer would not be given, and most would not dare tread on such controversial ground.

3. How many Democrats today would have the backbone to fight for a vote
in the face of Republican legilative obfuscation and filibuster threats?

Not enough.

6. The difference between black rights and gay rights?
Gay people have had to suffer from the indignity of having their rights decided directly at the ballot box. If we had the 1964 civil rights law up for a vote today, the Internet would have destroyed it.

It's all about what rights an individual thinks he has to extend to his neighbor, and how much political power he can muster to pressure candidates and officeholders to agree with him.
