Re WH Royal Dinner Menu: Does George eat separately? |
|
Edited on Mon May-07-07 05:24 PM by saracat
I thought he had alcohol eliminated from the menu? With all the alcohol flavored food in this dinner as well as the wine, does George eat a different dinner? Just wondering! Menu

1. Chimpy has always understood... |
|
...that during formal dinners, he must sit at the folding table with the other children.
They *get* his jokes. They think he's smart. It's more fun over there.
Plus, he gets to eat on a Grover placemat.

2. Yes - George skips the food, and just inserts a straw directly into the |
|
wine bottle for his dinner.
(He knows it's rude to drink straight from the bottle at formal dinners, so he uses a straw so as not to offend.)

that a larger dinner plate improves table manners markedly. Of course it will not keep the pRezident from belching or breaking wind.
Let's hope the forks are numbered.

Just thinking about that "slurping" sound nauseates me...when they get to the Dover sole, the thought of him chewing w/his mouth open and talking at the same time....oh, God, erase this visual from my mental chalkboard...x(

6. that's probably a very light menu by British standards |
|
green pea soup with a tiny crispy "waffle" with a dab of caviar
dover sole amandine (a light dish) with a spoon of vegetables
a slice of lamb with a mushroom sauce and some baby vegetables
salad with a champagne vinaigrette and a bit of rustic cheese
the rose blossoms are some kind of "pulled" sugar
So it really is a pretty light meal for a state dinner.

28. The Alcohol Evaporates Out - this is serious |
|
As a reformed Alcoholic who's wife cooks with wine frequently I can tell you that not a drop gets by if you treat it right.
For the first two or three years I wouldn't eat anything cooked with alcohol but I finally relented so long as our cardinal rule against overcooking any food was set aside when alcohol was involved. The remaining flavor is much improved when wine is used in cooking, so its worth the risk, but once again, I make sure that not only has little been used but that it has consequently cooked such that all of the added alcohol essentially boils out. As you will recall alcohol boils at a lower temperature than water so its being removed from the cooking even before you can see visible steam rising from the pot. I would imagine that if there is any sincerity at all in George's stab at sobriety the White House cooking staff has been put on notice to keep the use of alcohol in the cooking down and to also make sure that none is left in the food by the time it hits the table.
Just saying ....
