Can we here at DU get the President to address the american people on the gulf spill?
They say it is going to ruin the entire north american continent....heard it on MSNBC. Food is a part of it too...but they're talking dead sea. I live on the gulf and I'm really worried. Some believe Obama's working hard behind the scenes, and we all know BP is not up to the task alone. We now learn the oil does not have to be spreading into the water, it can be skimmed onto a tanker. One after the other. So why is the gulf allowed to be ruined??? Too many questions.

They call this Earth's biggest disaster...so can we get President Obama to come on the TV he loves so much and talk to the people...and tell us just what the hell is going on?

1. I hope he does it this week after his visit and keeps on doing it in the weeks ahead
I email and call the White House. Just one drop in the bucket but it's something.

3. The Prez is scheduled to be in the gulf Friday, and I think I read he's
giving a press conference this week, too. So the TV 'he loves so much' will be hosting whatever he has to say, just for you.

30. Compassion seems to be in short supply for some.
No empathy for a fellow DUer who's suffering the first hand effect of this God awful disaster?

Classy, really, really classy.

I'm sure Obama would be so proud to know what an ardent supporter you are.

This is the kind of response that makes me ill.

4. P.S. It's really lame and weak to Unrec this thread
Here is a plea from a Gulf resident and you Unrec. Yes - lame, weak and too shallow to extend some compassion for a Gulf resident DUer.

7. Don't know if he'll do that but I've heard he's doing a presser on Thursday...
The reason for not sending in tankers is most likely that they are in use and not enough urgency has been expressed by the gov't, presumably because officials don't want to own this problem and are STILL deferring to BP.

9. Did you read that posting here about how tankers are sitting full
They're betting on the prices rising because of the spill. I read it this morning. It sure backs up what Papantonio said yesterday.

Found the thread with the link...

33. Hess oil is at $2.54
in the Charleston, SC area. BP is $2.65. Go figure. The stations are right across the street from each other. Looks like BP wants to bankrupt us just before they kill us.

8. If "They" said that, don't listen to "They."
This will have no affect on Canada, part of the North American Continent. Affect on the entire West Coast should be negligible.

Yea, we get a lot of Fish from the gulf. That will be impacted or at least a decade. But the Earth, of which North America is a part, has an amazing ability to repair itself. The asteroid that killed the dinosaurs set the Earths Atmosphere on fire, for a while. At least one time in history, the entire surface of the earth was covered by ice, and life reduced to microscopic crap in deep water and in rocks. Life came back.

I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I would like to hear more information on what is being done.

16. Anyone who wants 'to hear more information'...
...who also has internet access doesn't actually want to 'hear more information'.

They want to hear more cheerleading for their team.

Which, while not nothing, may not be the wisest use of Presidential time.

17. An hour to address the public in the face of an environmental disaster isn't a waste of time.
He needs to be out there more.

But yeah, I'm all about some cheerleading.

18. I'm betting he will address us within the next few days, especially since a poll
came out showing something like 70% of the people don't feel as though he's handling the situation well.

I'm one of the ones who thinks he's doing all he can, but we need to HEAR about it from him.

I'm not sure that anyone can predict what the final outcome will be, especially since the well is still spewing. I hope it's not as bad as you heard.

21. I think this is a very wise suggestion.
Right now the leadership of the president and the capacity of the government to govern are in question.
Communications must be drafted, policies must be made.
Do the corporations that made this mess govern its solution for the benefit of future profits?
Or does a public-spirit prevail in the decision-making, and do these over-rich players know their place according to law?
I doubt you can trust BP, Transocean and Halliburton for altruism or public spirit.
We choose government because we know what business is and why it exists.

29. No, we can't even get the pro-oil
contingent on DU to even admit that the spill is a life killer, much less could we get The Precious to do anything about it. He's fine with how BP is handling it. That's just a fact.
