SC voters, politicians ask for proof on alleged affair

Lexington County voters who have elected state Rep. Nikki Haley three times and state lawmakers who serve with her at the State House all posed the same question Tuesday: Where’s the proof?

Where is the evidence, they ask, to back up the claim by political blogger Will Folks, a former aide to Gov. Mark Sanford, that he and Haley, a front-runner in the Republican gubernatorial race, had an “inappropriate physical relationship” in 2007?

If proof doesn’t surface or doesn’t exist, many say Haley, surging in some polls and recently endorsed by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and former S.C. first lady Jenny Sanford, is in solid shape heading into the June 8 primary.

Folks said the proof exists in e-mails and texts between him and Haley that he and his attorneys are pulling together now. “Nikki says it’s categorically false. The problem with that is it’s categorically true,” Folks said in a phone interview Tuesday. “There will be a very aggressive effort mounted to obtain all of the data that will corroborate what I’ve said.”

Folks said he expected Haley to deny the relationship but was taken aback by how aggressive Haley and Palin were in their denial and their criticism of him. “A simple denial would have been fine. I got opened up on with a freaking howitzer.”

One very important point will remain whether he is right or not:
"Folks should be taken seriously as soon as he uses his lawyers against whomever threatened him to begin with."

Why didn't he threaten or start this legal action at the same time he accused Haley?
He has been blackmailed. It wasn't for money. However, it was used to force him to make an admission about a candidate in an election. Whoever was behind this should be given legal scrutiny.

He was taken aback by their response??? What did he expect? A thank you note or meek disavowal. If you are accused like this you either admit it or double down with your response. Folks may be right, but he is either a freaking idiot or he is lying. He's been too sharp a political operative to be caught off guard as he claims.

Why didn't he have those texts and emails gathered already?? If he didn't believe he would have to prove what he said, he is again a freaking idiot. Maybe he thought she would just drop out.

I wouldn't vote for Haley period. This may have a huge affect on the race either way. She didn't have a lot of money to spend to get ads made to use around the state so voters would know more about her. Haley has it now in spades.

When the cards are laid down in this hand, Folks will a full house. It will be made of either Aces or Jokers.
