Idiotic wingnut LTTE from the Columbus Dispatch
Conservative talk shows provide balance
(Columbus Dispatch, May 26, 2010)

Ever wonder why conservatives listen to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Fox News, Laura Ingraham, Mark Levine and other conservative broadcasters? It is because they report all the news, not just selective news.

A couple of recent examples: Mexican President Felipe Calderon addressed a joint session of Congress, with President Barack Obama and other administration officials in attendance, and bashed Arizona's recently passed law granting police the right to question those stopped legally for identification (“Mexican leader to Congress: Ban assault weapons,” New York Times article, Friday Dispatch). He was met with a standing ovation by Democratic members of Congress, which was not reported.

I think that is outrageous, particularly from a government whose own immigration laws are rather Draconian.

In another story about the same time, Assistant Secretary of State Michael Posner discussed the same subject with Chinese officials. Once again Arizona's law was criticized. I and many other conservatives find these two instances to be unforgivable of our own government.

To allow our government to agree with foreign governments in attacking one of our sovereign states, particularly governments that have much more to answer for when discussing human rights, is absurd. Our adoring press is more interested in not hurting its liberal icons than it is in telling the public what it needs to know.

So now Obama has begun a program to manage the popularity of talk radio through the Federal Communications Commission. How nice.

RUPERT RUSSELL
Coshocton

This is much more typical of LTTEs in the Dispatch than the one I posted earlier this week. Does anyone know what Rupert of Coshocton is talking about when he speaks of Obama's "program to manage the popularity of talk radio"? Is this like the $2 million Obama has supposedly spent to keep his birth information secret?

In any case, it was nice to learn that conservative media are not selective in their reporting of the news.

2. This nutball probably believes the drivel that Obama is going to bring back the Fairness Doctrine

because it's the only way to "manage the popularity of talk radio" by balancing conservative voices on the radio with liberal voices. Because, you know, on its own in the great Free Enterprise Market, liberal talk radio just can't compete with conservative talk radio, which is beloved to the majority of Americans and thus SHOULD naturally dominate the airwaves. :sarcasm:

Edited to add: He no doubt also believes that conservative talk radio is desperately needed to even hope to balance out the news outlets, which of course are all hopelessly liberal. :sarcasm:

4. New Owneship Rules May Be On The Way
Firstly, sounds like that tree stump is still yammering about the right wing fear tactic that the FCC will reimpose the "Fariness Doctrine"...which it isn't. It's been used to pretend that Obama and the FCC would be doing this to destroy hate radio...it wouldn't as hate radio is classified as "entertainment" (yeah, I know a joke) and wouldn't have been covered under the old rules. Just a scare tactic.

I did read today that the FCC is considering re-evaluating the ownership limits that one company can own. This could force a Cheap Channel to sell its smaller market stations and with it the "exclusivity" of its Premeier Network (that distributes Rushbo and a lot of other hate radio), Local ownership may just opt for local programming rather than a national swillfest. At least that's the hope.

The great unhinged have been conditioned like dogs when it comes to hate radio. It's not information or "news" they offer but re-inforcement of stereotypes and talking points. It's a wingnut's daily affirmation where they go to hear what the "PTB" want them to hear and they assume since every hate spewer is talking about it, it must be true. The ultimate demonstration of how "the big lie" works.
