"The Trans-Alaska Pipeline, owned by BP Plc (BP) and other oil majors, was shut down Tuesday, cutting most supply out of Alaska oilfields, after a power outage caused an oil spill.

Pipeline operator Alyeska Pipeline Service Co., owned by BP, ExxonMobil Corp. (XOM), ConocoPhillips (COP) and other oil companies, said the pipeline has been shut and North Slope oil producers have been asked to cut their output to 16%. The 800-mile pipeline was shut after a series of mishaps that started with a power outage that triggered a pipeline valve to open, causing an oil tank to overflow, Alyeska said. There were no injuries, but personnel were evacuated near the pump station where the spill occurred.

The incident occurs at a time when BP, which owns 47% of the 800-mile-long oil pipeline, is working to contain a giant oil spill in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico after an oil rig exploded and sunk in April. After several failed attempts to stem the flow of oil from a damaged well, BP said it will try stop the spill by injecting heavy drilling fluids into the damaged well, a procedure known as "top kill."

In Alaska, Alyeska said crews had been testing the fire-command and valve leak systems this morning at Pump Station 9, about 100 miles south of Fairbanks, when the accident occurred. The company estimated that several thousand barrels were potentially spilled in a containment area near the pump station. Additional spill response crews and equipment were on their way to the scene, according to Alyeska."

5. Halt everyting? Is that really a solution?
All pipelines, all tankers, all platforms, all wells, all refineries.

So when riots break out over gasoline shortages in about 2 weeks then what?
When you can't get to work about a week after that then what?
