3. I still think that SNL sketch with Gore reporting on his progress is the best |
|
But I also think things would not be as good as you imply. I truly doubt he would have put a dent in the wealth of the top 1%ers. Clinton didn't.
California has serious issues that go beyond who is president.

5. California's serious issues were made 100 times worse... |
|
...by Enron and the gang, all part of the Bush/Cheeeeeney legacy.
To say that who was President would not have made much difference is to be extremely naive if not disingenuous.
It would have made a huge difference. Just for starters, there would not have been a recall of Governor Davis IMO, because that was put in place precisely because Davis wanted to sue Enron for the $9B they stole from his state.
I say this as someone who didn't like Davis at all, due to his pandering to the prison industry and many refusals to grant pardons. But still.

7. I didn't say things would have been the same |
|
But I disagree that things would have been the utopia you think they would have been. In any case none of this is relevant, unless someone can figure out how to travel to parallel timelines where Gore was allowed to be elected.

8. I never mentioned a utopia... |

...not sure where you got that.
OTOH you are correct, we can't go back in time and fix it, more's the pity.

4. I thought about a Kerry presidency yesterday. |
|
I saw yet another thing in the news that he has been doing lately (as usually it was something that actually makes sense) and felt a real loss. :(

6. You certainly have specific dreams. |

Percentages and everything!
Last one I remember, I was singing karaoke with Peter Cetera and a guitar-playing creature at a high school hockey game. My mic fell off it's stand and I quit the group to go flying without an airplane.

9. Statistics tell us much |
|
LIKE From 1945 to 1981 each percentile gained almost evenly in Income and Wealth. Economists labeled a Picket Fence Distribution. In 1945 the top 1% owned 30% of Total Financial Wealth. In those 35 years it was redistributed and in 1980 it was 20%. After 8 of Reagan they owned 36%. An 80% increase. Reagan gave them a 60% Cut in Earned Income Taxes and 47% Tax Cut in Unearned Income. He gave them a big cut by moving Revenue Sharing to Middle class Property Taxes. He gave Middle Class the biggest Tax Increase in history the Payroll Tax Increase and he capped the amount paid by Rich. He increased gas tax by five cents per gallon a tax increase mainly on Middle Class. He increased Defense Spending big time. A gift to wealthy stockholders of Defense Industry stocks. He increased Spending by 80% and Debt by 183%. Who got Rich? In 1980 we had 10 Billionaires. In 1989 we had 51.
Bush completed the job. Big Tax cuts for Rich. 403 Billionaires.
In 2008 Top 1% owned 43% of Total Financial Wealth 10% owned 70% 20% owned 93% 80% owned 7%=120,000,000 workers-Shafted
We will require a redistribution by Tax Policy.
Wall Street Owns us. Our Wealth Our :argest corporations Our White House Our Senate Our House of Rep
It will take strong people not owned by the rich. First we need to Finance Campaigns and not allow outside money to be used at all to influence our government employees.Limite numbers of month to camopaign. Public financed debates only.
First Amendment stands in our way.
