Hawthorne Man Allegedly Hangs Pit Bull :(
Man Accused Of Animal Cruelty, Pot Cultivation
POSTED: 9:41 am PDT May 26, 2010

Police said a man who allegedly kicked, beat and hanged his pit bull from a pole was booked for investigation of animal cruelty and cultivation of marijuana.

Hawthorne police said 19-year-old Ricardo Salvador Plascenia was arrested Monday and the dog, named Mary Jane, was taken to the vet, where she was in good condition.

Police said they were called by neighbors who heard the 50-pound dog yelping, crying and screaming.

Investigators said the neighbors reported that the dog was slammed to the concrete, punched, kicked and hoisted onto a pole by a choke chain.

3. For the animal abuse, no. :^( But they will probably slam him for the marijuana.

2. Rotten bastard. I'll bet anything he was trying to turn that dog
into a "killing machine", and went apeshit when he realize the dog wouldn't go down that road!!

RIP, Mary Jane...

5. The article said the dog was in good condition.
Hopefully she will be ok and can still find someone that will really love her and take care of her.

7. Wow - I feel like a jerk for jumping the gun. I just saw the word "hangs",
and just immediately assumed she was dead.

I feel much better than I did a few minutes ago...I can be such a dumbass at times.

9. Understandable reaction.
I first I thought that would be the outcome too.

Take a look at this adorable face...

6. I'm a humanist, but damn
I wish someone would beat this guy and hang him by a choke chain.

I'm glad the dog is alive, and I hope she heals complete. Anyone know where we can donate to her veterinary care?

"He wasn't beating the dog," the man said. "The dog broke the fence. The dog was trying to let itself out."

The man said Plascenia had the dog since it was born, less than a year ago.

Asked if he would be upset if the video showed Plascenia abusing the dog, the man said, "Of course. I love dogs."

Coronel said Mary Jane will be taken to the Carson animal shelter, where she will be kept during the court case. Ultimately, she will be put up for adoption.

"He's not getting her back," Coronel said.
