Tanker overturns on I-80; 2,600 gallons of diesel trickling toward Donner Lake

A major highway through the Sierra Nevada is closed because of an overturned tanker truck east of Donner Summit.

There were no reports of injuries after the driver lost control and hit the guardrail just before 6 a.m. Wednesday. One of his trailing tanker trailers flipped and was sliced open.

The California Highway Patrol says 2,600 gallons of diesel fuel is spilling from the truck and trickling toward Donner Lake.

The California Department of Transportation says the mess will have to be cleaned up before Interstate 80 can reopen.
