Family Research Council: Don't Ask repeal will increase sex assaults
Source: San Francisco Chronicle

In about an hour, religious conservatives at the Family Research Council will hold a press conference with two retired military officials arguing that repeal of Don't Ask, Don't tell "will increase sexual tension and even sexual assault in the military."

Featured guests: Retired Col. Richard Black, U.S. Marine Corps, and Joseph Schmitz, former Inspector General of the Department of Defense.

... FRC claims it has "new research that confirms the military already has a significant problem of homosexual misconduct. This problem can only become worse if the current law is overturned and homosexuals are openly welcomed (and even granted special protections) within the military."

1. All homo sex is classified as "misconduct" - repeal would actually
drop those numbers because it wouldn't be outlawed.

Seems like the 60,000+ GLBT currently on active duty have done a damn fine job of not letting anyone know about their love life - the hetero troops could probably take a lesson.

2. Really? Idiots. Why would sexual tension increase?
Sexual misconduct and harassment is still against the rules. No matter what gender is doing it.
If a service member is a cowardly bully and needs to play sexual alpha male or female to prove themselves over others in their unit or elsewhere on base, it won't change. When DADT is repealed and sexual identity becomes a non-issue, Gays and Lesbians - and Heterosexuals - will still be harassed or assaulted at the same rate they were before until those with power-trip problems are dealt with and esprit de corps demanded and exemplified by leadership, sexual misconduct will continue.

It's a leadership and morale issue, not a sex issue. The same always happens whenever there's a need to "integrating" other minorities - not just race or gender, but culture or religion - in a unit.
Ret. Col. Richard Black - is he a buddy of or did he possibly serve under Ret. General Sheehan?
Both idiots who apparently have manhood issues.

Haele

3. Yeah, right... Tailhook comes to mind. 87 women assaulted in 1 weekend
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tailhook_scandal

I love this reference to the West Wing show:

The scandal was also referenced in The West Wing, during a debate about "Don't ask, don't tell". When arguing with a Congressman about the issue, Sam Seaborn says:

There's something I'd always wanted to ask you. Why does being gay mean you can't keep your hands to yourself? Over what kind of gentlemanly pride are the Armed Forces willing to lay claim the restraint in that area? You want me to get the file on sexual harassment on the D.O.D.? Do you want me to ask these guys about Tailhook?

5. I guess that's why they are former
because real officers can hold discipline in their ranks. Yeah an American soldier is tough enough to spend several year rotation in a open hostile zone, but can't handle a open gay person at their work station. OK. I'm just saying way to hate on the US military there FRC.
