Inuit join call for moratorium on offshore oil drilling in northern Canadian sea

A fourth northern leader has joined the call to stop offshore oil exploration in Arctic waters until safeguards are in place to prevent a repeat of the Gulf of Mexico disaster.

Mary Simon, head of Canada's national Inuit organization, says no drilling in the Beaufort Sea should be allowed until energy companies commit to using the best international safety practices. snip

Simon joins the premier of the Northwest Territories, the head of the Nunavut land claim group and the leader of the main aboriginal organization along the Beaufort coast.
