I'm so depressed.
All the news is just so horrible. Everything everywhere is horrible. But the deal in the Gulf is just so awful.

I wish the KC Star would have just one page in the newspaper that has only good news. Then I could just read that and the funnies and the weather report.

Problem is that there is nothing I can do about any of this stuff. That makes it worse. That helplessness.

3. That would help.
Can't even find any of that.

Maybe I could find an old Cheech and Chong movie - I love Going up In Smoke

5. We have the two worst teams in the country.
I have lived her since 1970 and I can't remember a time when either one of them won anything.

People can't even give away their season tickets anymore.

It was only a quarter of a century ago.

9. Was that the last thing they won?
I remember something about that. I think there was no crime in KC during that game.

Now crime goes way up during a game because people get so pissed off they get drunk and start shooting each other.

13. I'm a petsitter. Thank God for the little guys I take care of every day.
And I have two of my own dogs at home.

Loving animals like I do makes it all worse. I wish I was a lot more cold hearted at times like this. All those poor animals out there. Just makes me sick.

15. There is a lot of truth to that.
I'm not too excited about the future at this point in time.

And I'm usually a really optimistic person. Just seems like the human race has just fucked everything up so badly.

I wonder if anything would change if people who had tested out to be sociopaths were not allowed out in society any more. Just a dumb thought. What if CEO's actually cared about something?

17. This story about a child cancer survivor made me feel great:

Lance Kopplin just turned 11-years-old. It's a birthday that he wasn't sure he would ever see.

Four years ago, Lance was diagnosed with orbital rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancer so rare that it's diagnosed in only 35 children a year. After treatment, Lance went into remission, but three months later the cancer was back and spreading towards his brain.

His parents decided on a life altering surgery to remove Lance's right eye. They thought that would take care of the cancer, but it didn't. They found out Lance only had two weeks to live.

What happened next is nothing short of a miracle. This is the story of a little boy who wouldn't take no for an answer and the hope he gives to all children who are fighting for their lives.

It helps me. Try it. Please if your this depressed turn it off and don't read the paper. Find something good to do for others.

25. Well said...
Despite common belief, ignorance is NOT bliss!

Forewarned is forearmed...

When I was a teen, I read the Foxfire books... I was convinced I could survive anything. I keep threatening to drag those books out... I may only have one left... alibris.com here I come!

I'm a 12th generation American survivor. I can be damn stubborn about things... surviving is one of them;)

27. Good to see you friend! Ignorance has been bliss long enough
to ensure collapse. Now those who chose to remain willfully ignorant about the oil situation will get a painful reality check. Granted, we should have a couple more years before things begin to get really bad. And then these will be considered the good ol' days.

28. Good to see you too, pal!
The good ol' days... indeed.

I was reading up on the massive spill off Australia years back... the main issue I found was that the gulf is about 75% land locked... Australia is surrounded by ocean, so it has far more currents. The only thing that stirs the gulf up is hurricaines... sadly, that would do more harm than good to the wetlands.

I just don't see any good way out of this... sans Obama donning that Superman suit so many on DU are insistent he do.

34. We have a three-mile stretch in Huntington Beach...
So I figure a brisk walk over three miles of sand is worth a lot of solid ground walking!

We go every Saturday and Sunday mornings... unless it's raining, which doesn't happen that often.

Watch "What's Up Doc." That movie makes me forget about the world! So much
silly fun, and just uproariously hilarious.

Madeline Kahn, Barbara Streisand, Ryan O'Neil and loads of
other stars.

The scene where the hotel rooms catches on fire is probably the
funniest scene in the history of movies.
