Student suffers amputation after embarrassing school assault

CROSBY, Minn. -- Pain is the operative word in the unfortunate story of 14-year-old David Gibbons. It is a pain he has endured both physically and emotionally after being punched in the groin by another student as he changed classes at Crosby Ironton High School.

"One o'clock in the morning he woke me up and told me he was in excruciating pain," recalls Christy Gibbons, David's mom. Not long after, David was in surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital in Brainerd having his right testicle removed.

"This may be called a game, but it's not a game. It's dangerous and it needs to stop," said Christy.

It's a notion seconded by Dr. Scott Wheeler, a Brainerd urologist.

"It's just gotten way out of control," said Wheeler, who now performs "three to four surgeries a year" on boys with ruptured testicles and other complications of being groin punched - with dozens more coming in with less severe injuries. "It's high school, junior high, elementary school," said Wheeler.

Dubbed "sack tapping" by some students, the practice is now featured in dozens of homemade videos on YouTube.

One is an assualt. The other is generally a dumb teenage boy thing. If you want to go go charging teens with assault for doing the dumb shit teens have been doing for laws knows how long, then you can fund the additional juvenille housing needed.

Most of the time this game (that is usually played in middle and high school) is done by willing participants. Notice in the video how lots of the kids, even the ones been "assaulted" are smiling and laughing about it?

Now, if you're done sermonizing and attempting to play the dumb-it-down card (and done telling us what an internet tough guy you are), dad, maybe you'll get on to showing me the mountains of evidence you have that this childhood game is linked to males groping or punching women in the same vain. 37. No, it's not always the case but if you watched the video

and cant figure out that you're seeing the same people, all popping each other in the sack, then you're not paying attention and that's not my fault.

This shit got popular in my middle school for awhile and yeah, I was both a player and a victim. More importantly, if kids made it clear they didn't want anything to do with it, they generally weren't bothered. Sure it was stupid, but most of the people I know did stupid shit at that age. If you provided me with some evidence that these same kids that are sack tapping are also grabbing females against their will then I'd believe you, but you haven't, so I don't. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I'd be willing to bet it doesn't happen a lot and most people, even teens, understand the social implications in what the difference is.

Obviously I'd react negativly to being hit in the balls by a stranger but, if you watch the movie and pay a little fucking attetnion to the context, you'll see that most of these kids are talking to each other, or other groups of kids, and are, for the most part, laughing it off after it happens.
