Fixing Politics and Government
I just watched a segment on the Dylan Ratigan Show in which he asked the question how do we fix the problems of the country when politicans seem to only be interested in providing short term fixes to make people happy instead of providing long term fixes. As a result I wanted to know what people from DU thought. How do we fix the system so that politicans provide long term solutions instead of short term fixes?

My main thought was to take corporate money out of politics. I guess another way to force politicans to provide long term solutons is to have more transparency in government. What would be the suggestions from others at DU?

1. Increase the House terms from 2 years to 4 years.
House members spend all their time raising money to be re-elected because their terms are so short. Hence short-term solutions look good to them. It'd take a Constitutional amendment to do though, so it probably won't happen.
