President Obama held a presser today and essentially answered all oil disaster questions the same way: despite appearances, the government has taken decisive action to address the crisis, and has acted consistently with a sense of urgency. Really. He also spent a lot of time looking backward at poor regulatory methods that allowed BP to break the safety rules that would’ve prevented this catastrophe.

Meanwhile, Gulf Coast residents are panicked and outraged over the volume of oil that is poisoning the beaches and marshes with no official clean-up or containment efforts being made by BP or the government. And the success of the “top kill” effort to plug the broken pipe has yet to be determined.

In related “bad” news, the hurricane season is almost upon us and is predicted to be active and violent. There’s no telling the amount of oil that will be sucked up and spewed everywhere if one of these storms occurrs in the contaminated Gulf.

BP = Bastard People, I hope you don't mind if I use that, it's shorter than the string of filth and foul that usually come out of my mouth. I was watching Kent Williams doing his little talk about the top kill and I was yelling at my computer screen. He kept yapping about the best and brightest engineers and how they were most conscious of safety, and I was yelling, too bad that wasn't first and foremost when this catastrophe was designed and drilled. :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:

No matter what I watched on the cam feed and read I was hoping that somehow the top kill would work. I heard the announcement that Bastard People has suspended operations and it was late breaking news on my teevee machine. The fact that Suttles admitted it had been suspended 16 hrs. earlier is just goddamned cruel to the people on the coasts and to a lesser degree, folks like me who were hoping it would work.

God I hate these bastards, and I'll give the Pinot a try, but I don't think there is enough in the world right now.
