LA Rep Gets Emotional: ..."everything that I know and love is at risk,"
Washington (CNN) - Louisiana Democrat Charlie Melancon lost his composure Thursday during a Capitol Hill hearing about the Gulf oil spill.

"Our culture is threatened. Our coastal economy is threatened. And everything that I know and love is at risk," Melancon, who represents many of the affected Louisiana shoreline areas, told his Capitol Hill colleagues.

Unable to finish reading his prepared statement, Melancon submitted it for the congressional record and then walked out of the hearing room as other lawmakers sought to comfort him.

1. And how often did he vote with the GOP against the Democratic Party?
Seems like the Louisiana Democrats were always supporting the "oil crowd", AKA Cheney and the gang.

2. Except as has already been stated on this "Democrat", he took money from big oil
and voted for them on numerous occasions. Amazing how we feel guilt after the fact.

4. He Does Look Cute At It, Ma'am, But This 'Drill, baby, Drill!' Booster Gets No Cigar

'In 2006, he worked for a bill that opened an area in the Gulf of Mexico to offshore oil drilling and increased the amount of federal royalties that went to the states.(13) The bill was considered a huge win for offshore drilling and for Louisiana.(14)

'Melancon, who is on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, has also focused on allowing oil drilling off the Louisiana coast.

'Melancon is one of the least reliable Democrats. During the 109th Congress, Melancon voted with the Democrats just just 67 percent of the time. He supported President George W. Bush's proposals 72 percent of the time in 2006.'

5. It is purely crocodile tears to make his constituents think he cares.
Thanks for the info on him.

6. They Voted For Him, Ma'am
Depend upon it, seven out of nine of the boat owners and fishermen crying over the destruction of their businesses have voted all their lives for representatives owned and operated by the oil industry, and expressed through the years nothing but scorn for liberal do-gooders trying to impose safety regulations and environmental restrictions on businessmen....

7. That is true. It is harsh during a time like this, but it is essentially the truth.
I hope they learn from this.

8. Indeed, Ma'am: One Hopes They Will Learn
The old Kingfish was a mixed bag, and he is sorely missed....
