:freak:

from the unhinged American Family Association:

More Chicago-style politics to ram unpopular vote through Congress Thursday
Repeal of "Don't ask, don't tell" resorts to using Obamacare tactics...again

May 25, 2010

Once again, an unpopular piece of legislation is on the verge of being forced down the throats of the American people.

The Center for Military Readiness reports the House of Representatives plan to undermine the political process (again) and repeal the current "Don't ask, don't tell" policy, allowing open homosexuals to serve in the military.

President Barack Obama and Speaker Nancy Pelosi are again using arm-twisting and backdoor deals in order to force open their laboratory for trendy experiments in the social engineering of our military.

And again, they want to pass a law, and then decide what's in it...and how to implement it.

Forget about good government protocol of going through the proper committees. Forget about bi-partisan cooperation between political parties. And, especially, forget about Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Admiral Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, urging Congress not to work on repeal until the Pentagon's year-long study of the issue is complete.

This Thursday, Speaker Pelosi will attempt to circumvent the will of the people by ramming through an amendment to the 2011 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" straight from the floor of the House of Representatives!

Allowing open homosexuals to serve in the military will decimate military morale and unit cohesion, introduce sexual tensions into same-gender accommodations and damage rather than enhance military readiness. Read our detailed report here.

Also on Thursday, the Senate Armed Services Committee is scheduled to mark-up the Defense Appropriations bill, and Chairman Carl Levin appears determined to ram through a repeal of the law. The vote will be very close, so your action is critical!

8. Yep. He rear-ended 'em, too.
:hi:

Using the theory of "know what the enemy is up to," I sometimes listen to the local right-wing Fundie radio station here in Los Angeles. Usually listen on my commute. I only live 5 miles from work, which is about all I can stand.

For the curious, that station is KKLA. And that call sign really needs one more "K..."

Dobson and\or the AFA must own a chunk of this station, since somebody from that rancid bunch seems to be on the air every day. Dobson has a daily hate-fest in the morning.

Then just the other day I heard some "expert on youth" pontificating. Turned out to be Dobson's daughter, who was begging money for some crap she's pushing.

I nearly wrecked the car the day HCR passed. Dobson was on the air just ranting and raving. "We got to stop this! Call your representative. Those people in Washington have got to fear us. FEAR US!"

I thought the old bugger was going to have a stroke, right there on the air. No such luck, though.

3. The repeal will only go into effect if and when the military give it an OK
"undermine the political process" What? The political process gave the Dems the majority in the house and there majority rules. The majority voted to repeal DADT and that is the political process.

12. Hey AFA, suck on this! I've got lots of friends in the GLBT
community and I'd trust them to cover my back any day. The posted argument makes little if any sense.
Let's get back to logic and rational thinking.
I know, I know, the whole thing is to grab some emotional hook to get people to focus on some other as being the source of their problems.

From my POV the AFA is just pissing on their own grave. When you define the problem in irreconcilable terms, there's no wiggle room. You're either right or wrong. From this side of the fence I think they are soo wrong. Let them spew their shit but get out there and tell people about your life experience and how sexual discrimination affected someones life.

14. Know what really scares 'em?
When DADT goes in effect....and nothing changes with US military readiness and unit cohesion. Then the rubes who have believed their BS will start wondering what the big problem was...maybe even start wondering if they've been lied to about other things. You can hear it in the Republicans and the Religious Right leadership as their fear/hate rhetoric is escalating. They're gonna lose another issue that they've made a lot of votes and money on opposing.

21. Just like same sex marriage - all the fear and warnings before hand
and none of it came to pass.

Actually, it's the same way with almost all the causes the Right use to stir people into voting / sending money - they try to make people afraid to stop or slow change, the change eventually happens, life goes on same as or better than before, the Right finds new wedge issue.

Blacks in the military as well as the Civil Rights Act, all things involving females really

Things like "same-sex marriage leads to pedophilia or beastiality" . .. or "Tax cuts create jobs" . . . or "Must fight the terrorists over there so we don't have to fight them in the great state of Oklahomer!" . . . or "abortion is child-murder!" . . . or "Democrats and liberals are the same thing as Lenin/Stalin/Khruschev Commies!" . . . or "The Founding Fathers made this a CHRIS-TUN Republic!"

20. That doesn't sound like "support the troops" to me... Does it to you?
I mean on the one hand they're slamming GLBT servicemembers, stating that they would be dangerous and bad for morale and couldn't do the job.

On the other hand, they're saying all the other servicemembers are so narrow-minded, intolerant, and bigoted that even mere mention of someone of a different orientation would be enough to break down unit cohesion.

No matter which what they're going, they're insulting our men and women in uniform, aren't they?

24. I've got 5 words for the AFA re: homosexuals serving openly in the US
military: The Sacred Band of Thebes. The AFA would have run screaming in fright from them. Repealing DADT is not only the right decision, it's the best decision, and it's long overdue.

25. I love going to AFA
They can twist the most simple and straightforward issue into a political, incredibly conservative, anti Democratic pretzel. They are to be admired . . . from afar. Hell, if the democrats pushed a bill seeking to save orphaned dogs from Louisiana after a hurricane, they'd be claiming that Obama was anti-cat.
