Rep. Mary Bono Mack votes against DADT repeal
You might be looking at this post and wondering why I am calling out this particular Republican, but I'm going to tell you why. Mary Bono Mack is the only GOP Representative to represent a district with more than 10% LGBT population. CA-45 voted 51-46 for President Obama in 2008 and is currently on the DCCC's target list. CQ rates this seat as Likely Republican, which means there is a chance we could pick it up.

The district has become socially moderate and such a socially conservative stance might not go well with more moderate voters. Her vote might because she's facing a Tea Party primary challenge from a Sarah Palin backed (big surprised) candidate. Bono Mack hasn't had a really formidable opponent in her previous elections to Congress, but this year, that's not the case. Democrat Steve Pougnet, the Mayor of Palm Springs is a strong candidate. In light of Bono Mack's vote, I think it's time to step up support for Steve and help bring this race to the front burner.

1. Wonder if stepchild Chaz Bono tried to talk to Mack about this issue.

2. Another thing . . .
Her step-daughter is gay (now Chaz Bono) and her late husband Sonny Bono would never have voted this way. How she has gotten to keep this seat after all of these years is amazing to me. She does nothing at all except vote against her constituency. I don't get it.

8. I think she got a lot of people to believe she was a moderate
She completely sidestepped taking a position on Prop. 8 and some people had a problem with that. I think this vote is going to show her constituency what sort of Republican she is.

6. Cher keeps looking more and more the mature & sane one
Of course, I guess Sony might have changed if he had lived, but I'm guessing Mary may be more representative of that side of the equation...

12. Republican hypocrisy at its finest. It also shows she doesn't listen to her constiuents.
She also doesn't look out for their best interests.

13. When Chaz was Chastity and came out, she said Sonny was much cooler with it than Cher.
And Cher admits she had a hard time with it in the beginning.

Sonny was a Republican goofball and, at least for a time, a Scientologist shill. But it sounds like he supported his daughter's orientation.

I suppose we can no longer say Chaz is gay, because he transgendered to a man who is attracted to women.
