You Say 6 Thousand. We Say 4.5 Billion
After negotiating a health care bill a mile away from universal care,

and after attempting to entice a Republican congress by drill baby drilling to disaster,

one must certainly conclude that Democrats giving ground to Republicans is bad and even dangerous.

It's like arguing the approximate age of the earth with them. How far from 4.5 billion would we have to move for them to move from 6000?

If we all had to come up with one number for the age of the earth, what number between 6000 and 4.5 billion would be acceptable to them?

Six thousand of course.

1. Some of the most fun I have with anti-evolutionists...
Is the following, which I've put into an example of an idealized conversation. I've used this before - normally on co-workers - including the Moses bit, but the quotes aren't exact.

Me: So you don't believe in evolution?
AE: No, God created all the animals.
Me: And they've remained unchanged ever since?
AE: Yes.
Me: So, how could Moses get two of every kind of animal on the ark?
AE: The Ark was big enough to hold all of them.
Me: Actually it was Noah, not Moses, who built the ark, but I digress. So every animal we see today was on the Ark?
AE: Yes.
Me: Did you know that if Noah took a pair of every type of beetle that exists today on the Ark, there wouldn't be room for any other animals?
AE: (normally a pause here) He didn't need to take every kind of beetle. He just needed a pair of one male and one female.
Me: But all other beetles would have died in the flood. So by the Noah story, all other beetles must have come from this mating pair.
AE: Yes...
Me: But God quit making new animals after the first 6 days. If all the other kinds of beetles came from that saved pair, they must have changed, mutated, adapted, etc. And you can make the same case for all the different kinds of animals as well. So, if you're going to stick to the Noah story, then you must believe in evolution too. You just think it happened a lot faster. Welcome to the fold... brother.

The "brother" part normally pisses them off more than anything, and they normally choose not to talk to me anymore. :)
