President Obama was in louisiana on may 2.
by the media, you'd think he didn't know it existed.

----------------------------

After receiving his first in-person assessment of the increasingly worrisome situation caused by the oil spill off the Gulf Coast, President Barack Obama said Sunday the leak is “unique and unprecedented” and “could take many days to stop.”

“We’re dealing with a massive and potentially unprecedented environmental disaster,” Obama said, standing in a driving rain outside the Venice Coast Guard Center in Louisiana. “The oil that’s still leaking from the well could seriously damage the economy and the environment of our Gulf States and it could extend for a long time. It could jeopardize the livelihoods of thousands of Americans who call this place home.”

The president put blame for the disaster squarely on the shoulders of British oil giant BP, calling it “the BP oil spill,” and he presented a tough and assertive front amid criticism of his administration’s initial response and questions over whether the federal government or the oil company is in charge of leading it.

“We’ve made preparations from day one to stage equipment for a worst case scenario,” Obama said. After reemphasizing his administration’s “all hands-on-deck” response “from day one,” he turned to BP.

“Let me be clear: BP is responsible for this leak. BP will be paying the bill,” Obama said. “But as president of the United States I’m going to spare no effort to respond to this crisis for as long as it continues and we will spare no resource to clean up whatever damage is caused.”

3. Media was ignoring gulf disaster then as they were giving BP the room to control the news.
Only when Republicans created an opening to start blaming Obama did mainstream media focus on the disaster.
