Reporter: "Where are you from?", Clean up person: "I can't tell you"
Edited on Fri May-28-10 06:03 PM by Cetacea
"I am not allowed to talk with you." Reporter was wearing a "CNN" hat and introduced herself as a CNN reporter.

Reported by CNN.

This is consistent with earlier rumours that clean-up people would be fired on the spot if caught talking with reporters.

Also on CNN: Fish and Wildlife Service official complained of lack of transparency regarding wildlife related information.

10. Temp workers hired by BP.
Edited on Fri May-28-10 06:49 PM by chill_wind
Many locals, like fisherman and others in the local economies suddenly out of livelihoods and others lining up for work.

Here's a little more--

3. It is sad that so many Americans feel compelled to BP's bidding
Whether it is cleanup or local law enforcement, as Americans we should be telling BP to fuck off. For the life of me, I cannot understand these stories of LOCALS not allowing the press to cover the spill or fly over or pictures from boats. It seems these people are actually being paid by BP to limit any damage claims they or their neighbors may make in the future.

5. Yes.
The spill workers staying at my motel later tell me they've been specifically instructed by BP not to talk to any media, but they're pissed because BP tried to tell them that the crude they were swimming around in to move an oil containment boom was red tide, dishwashing-liquid runoff, or mud.

6. Is Obama in charge or BP?
This is heartbreaking. BP is running the show. Why are they being allowed to? IMO it might be because BP has the money, the gov is broke.

Since it's apparently a BP employee, then it's BP.

7. This whole tragedy
This entire tragedy has the aroma of the most callous business practices of the Glided Age. Back in the Pinkerton's shooting at workers to crush strikes and stuff like that.

These powerful corporations apparently answer to no one but their profit statements. They do not answer to our government, that's for sure. Is there any government BP is accountable to on earth?

Let them clean up...or take care of other matters. These stenographers are looking for "gotchas"...someone on a crew says one thing, Admiral Allen another...more misinformation. And for what? Let them work...

11. I mourn for our Gulf
This is a catastrophe that will be felt for generations. I mourn for the crystal blue waters, white sands, fish who tickled my toes while snorkeling ... it saddens me beyond words.

END ALL OFF SHORE DRILLING, humans will adapt to less oil, the environment cannot adapt to this egregious and constant poisoning.

We've got to kick the oil habit. The pursuit of petroleum is behind the Mideast wars too.

14. We have to wake up NOW
If this crime against nature doesn't wake us up, then we're truly doomed. Humans have the right to take ourselves out, but damnit, we have NO right to take the rest of the planet with us. Our glutenous ways led to this disaster, no doubt about it. This death is on ALL of our hands.

BP Buses In 400 Workers During Obama's Visit
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x4402592#top

*Responsible local officials* said in a video clip that they were told the same thing, when they tried to find out upon their arrival. I'm sure they figured BP sent them, but it might have been nice to be able to confirm that.

400 people descend on your town out of nowhere, can't say where they came from, and say they aren't allowed to communicate or talk to you?

:wtf:

29. The question is, did they return today?
Anderson Cooper covered this last night - that there were suddenly 300-400 workers cleaning the beach during Obama's visit. Once he left, they left. A BP rep said claimed that the workers had put in a full day & were finished.

Last night on his show, Anderson asked, "Will they return tomorrow?" I'm wondering the same thing. Did the workers return today? Or was it a one time PR event for the prez - to make it look like BP is taking action on the clean up?

Does anyone know?

24. Who the
f*ck does BP think it is? The old USSR? I am sick of this.

And I don't believe their damn video cam either. F*cking bunch of greedy LIARS.

I think some local sheriff should arrest the CEO the next time he shows up with his thin greedy lips and bushy hair do. And that dude, Suttles? When is a reporter going to ask him, 'Do you really think the American people are buying the crap that is coming out of your mouth?'

Arrest him, too. Murder charges.

27. I work in a large, fancy hotel. They've had rules in place for years prohibiting any...
...associate outside the general manager or other delegated representative from talking to the media about anything which transpires within the hotel. It's grounds for termination. Been this way for more than a decade.

So, if while serving in my capacity within the hotel I should be approached by anyone from the press, I am to politely decline to reply. It's in the rules.

Point here: this kind of policy is not uncommon, and while offensive on at least one level, is entirely legal.
