Obama Judicial nominees continue to languish as the Senate sleeps
Edited on Fri May-28-10 08:56 PM by usregimechange
Finally scheduled for June 7th...

At 4:30pm, the Senate will proceed to Executive Session to consider the following nominations:
  • #730, Audrey Fleissing, of Missouri, to be US District Judge for the Eastern District of MO
  • #731, Lucy Koh, of California, to be US District Judge for the Northern District of CA
  • #759, Jane Magnus-Stinson, of Indiana, to be US District Judge for the Southern District of IN

    Meanwhile...

Jane Branstetter Stranch, Nominee for the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit
Former AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee member
    56 years old

...has been waiting for more than 6 months for an up or down vote. On Nov 19th, 2009 she was backed by the Senate Judiciary Committee on bipartisan vote:

Voting yes: Kohl, Feinstein, Feingold, Schumer (by proxy), Durbin (by proxy), Cardin, Whitehouse, Klobuchar (by proxy), Kaufman, Spector, Franken, Sessions, Hatch, Graham (by proxy), Leahy.

Voting no: Kyle, Grassley, Coburn (by proxy), Cornyn.

The pace of confirmations by the US Senate, at a time when the Democrats have a near Super-majority, is the worst it's been in 50 years. While Republicans have the power to delay confirmations, even when they later vote to confirm them unanimously, Democrats have the power to end such delays using cloture. The fact that they have not done so but once is pathetic and asinine.

Special thanks for DUer Tx4obama for helping me stay updated and interested in federal judicial nominations.
