In an operation that began Wednesday, BP has been pumping heavy drilling mud into the blown-out well in hopes of choking it off and putting an end to what is already the biggest oil spill in U.S. history, at anywhere from 18 million gallons to 40 million by the government's estimate.

SoHo -- A group of about 200 protesters in New York City have called on BP to take responsibility for all cleanup costs of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The group rallied at a BP gas station in SoHo on Friday. Some dripped with fake oil made of chocolate and water-based paint, while others wore pictures of fish on their heads.

A BP drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico exploded on April 20, killing 11 workers and sending millions of gallons of oil into the water. The oil is beginning to foul beaches, kill wildlife and cripple the tourism and fishing industries.

Protesters waved signs "Clean Up, Don't Cover Up" and chanted "BP Your Heart is Black, You Can Have Your Oil Back."
