WOW! It just occurred to me while I was in the bathroom

that life does in fact come full circle.

When growing up a LW-Dem, my mother-of-blessed-memory would lecture me about how Senator Wayne Morse of Oregon had held the record for filibustering against...THE TIDELANDS OIL LEGISLATION...which allowed states to control the offshore drilling up to a certain number of miles (maybe 3?). I recall her saying that drilling offshore was one of the worst things man could do to the habitat because it was so risky.

But you know...I never really bought so much into that, because I was raised on TeeVee commercials by companies like Gulf and Mobil and Sinclair (became BP here in PA) and Atlantic (became ARCO) and Esso (became Exxon) and these were real stand-up pros...you could tell from the ads!!! :sarcasm:

So here we sit, with a horrifying geyser of oil rushing into the oceans of the world and it all goes back to who controlled the periphery of the country.

Of course, Senator Morse's speech was eclipsed by...Strom Thurmond who took a little time off from banging his black 'employee' and spoke against the Civil Rights Legislation! Just like Rand Paul!!
