World's largest oil spills (from Wikpedia) |
|
Not that this makes me feel any better, but it's interesting. This table is embedded in a larger article about oil spills in general. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_spill#Largest_oil_spills

This is America, and we're number one, now.
The chickens have finally come home to roost.

3. Not yet -- we're a long way from the Persian Gulf spill |
|
But we might get there, in which case the supertanker skimmer option may come into play.

4. Persian gulf in a desert |
|
Our Gulf was a one of a kind place that had a 100 times more life in it.
There is no comparison. You can try to compare, but it just won't be the truth.

9. Besides, the Persian Gulf is surrounded by Arabs and Iranians, so why give a damn |
|
Must be some pestilential sinkhole anyway.
American environmentalist pretty much don't care about the dirty industries so long as they are "over there" and "not in my back yard".

You are just flamebaiting, as usual.

5. Wikipedia article says the Persian Gulf spill was 9 - 10 million bbls |
|
How many are they "saying" have leaked in the Gulf from this one?

8. Probably less than a million barrels. |
|
Say 40 days * 10 K barrels per day would be 400 K barrels compared with 10 - 15 M barrels in the Persian Gulf.
There have been a variety of estimates from the "low, official" estimate of 5 K bpd to as much as 100 K bpd from unofficial sources. Something in the 10-20 K bpd seems reasonable, or 400 - 800 bpd to date.
Even at 100 K bpd and 120 days until killed by a relief well, you only get to 12 M barrels total -- about the same as the Persian Gulf.

6. We have yet to find out the full impact of the BP Gulf Gusher. |
|
But I'm sure it will be right up there at the top. They don't give us any reliable info and they sure as hell aren't making any headway by just tinkering with it.
The greedy finger-pointing bastards.
