I've tried emailing the admins at DU, alerting mods... |
|
... and yet I still see Google Ads plugging away this Toomey guy as a candidate for US Senate and that visitors on this site should click through to his site and support him.
Like, erm... he's a Republican?
If admin emails, mod alerts etc don't do anything what can I do to make them stop? Sure I can donate and turn off the ads but I'm watching the pennies these days and my donor status has lapsed. But to the casual observer it would appear odd, wouldn't it?

1. Firefox ABP. You'll never see another ad again. |
|
Not your point, I know. Just sayin'.

2. Just click on the ads! |
|

It costs Toomey money for click-thrus, some of that money goes to DU, everybody wins!
Except Toomey, of course...
I've personally been getting ads for Walker Stapleton, who's running for Colorado State Treasurer. He's first cousin to George W. Bush (hence the name Walker), and he's the grandson of Klan-connected Denver mayor Ben Stapleton.
Click...

It costs the Rethugs money, and the click-thru generates revenue for DU!

9. You've got a donor star, that makes the ads go away. |
|
I'm too poor to donate right now. :(

Republican advertisers are (unintentionally) supporting DU. Big difference.

11. More serious response: Skinner and the mods don't have control over the ads, Google does. |
|
Google doesn't discriminate politically - they just serve up the ads their advertisers pay for by keywords. Since we talk about political things here on DU, we're gonna see political ads. Including ads from the enemy. We talk about Joe Sestak, Toomey buys the "Sestak" adword from Google, thus we get served ads here on DU from Toomey.
Like I said, click on the ads - it costs the Rethugs money, and DU gets revenue.

A once yearly donation of $10 works out to only 0.0274 cents a day. Turn down your water heater a few degrees and you'll save more than that.

15. I have a very left-leaning website with Google Ads ... |
|
and there is way to request filters, but I get a kick out of the fact that the conservative freaks whose ads appear on my site are getting charged for clicks, and those clicks are paying for the annual hosting cost of the liberal site.

17. Firefox with AdBlock plus works great... |
|
and it's free for both the browser and add in.
Conversely, you could click through. Make Toomey waste his money by paying it to DU :)

18. There is a sizable amount of RWers, freepers, republicans, teabaggers, who read DU |
|
The ads are directed to them. Tons of RWers visit DU. People don't seem to understand this, but marketers do.

19. Toomey is just one slime streak short of Santorum on the slime index. |
|
The fucker is almost as stupid, but not quite. He's the last piece of shit PA needs to represent our state. All he needs is a shack in Penn Hills that he never visits and a mansion in Virginia and he would be set for a position on Fox Noise.
