BBC: Creative minds 'mimic schizophrenia'

Creative minds 'mimic schizophrenia'
Saturday, 29 May 2010 2:32 UK

Brain scans reveal striking similarities in the thought pathways of highly creative people and those with schizophrenia.

Both groups lack important receptors used to filter and direct thought.

It could be this uninhibited processing that allows creative people to "think outside the box", say experts from Sweden's Karolinska Institute.

2. Tangential thinking and loose associations
typify creative thinking. Fluidity of thought leads to an ability to move easily from one concept to another and relate them.

What about it?

I never wanted to be inside the box. In fact, I think I'm not sure if I even recognize the box anymore, and I'm sure I'm perfectly sane and highly creative. So be it.

8. Doesn't surprise me
My do-nothing coworker used to make wise cracks from time to time. Didn't bother him that I designed 50 products in the time it took him to do 2 (10 years). Designing the products required a significant amount of creativity and the confidence to try something that seems ridiculous initially.
