Seafood

by tristero

So I heard on NPR today that They - Trustworthy Serious People who have access to the media - say that if you're worried about the safety of Gulf seafood - that is, if you were so foolish as to think that the miles and miles and miles and miles of toxic petroloeum, dispersants, garbage, effluvia, and unmentionable detritus has poisoned your fish dinner-to-be, really, you shouldn't be. It's quite safe.

So what if the sludge in the Gulf looks like God had a bad case of the Runs? Once you wash it off, it'll be fine. Did you know petroleum has preservative qualities! Why, it'll taste even fresher than normal!

Besides, Americans happily eat meat cleaned in ammonia. No biggie.

1. Use this guide to select your Seafood
Gulf oysters were already in trouble from toxins being filtered through the benthic sediments.

2. Shrimp on the barby will become a whole new experience.
:grr:

So exactly how does the gulf replace this tasty seafood once the breeding grounds become toxic?

3. oh good gawd... it's so unreal.
I feel like I'm now enjoying the last seafood I'll eat for a long, long time.
I bought a 2 lb bag of frozen shrimp this last week and almost felt like crying thinking about the danger the food supply is in.

5. After Katrina, I swore to never go back to New Orleans.
There were just too many terrible memories. It occurred to me at that time, I'd never again taste the fresh seafood of the Gulf. No more real shrimp etoufee, crawfish bisque, even jambalaya.

But, in moving away, I always thought other people would be able to enjoy those things in the city, with its life and its music. After 5 years, I thought I was done mourning for New Orleans. These events of the last month are so wrong.

6. We refer to sea life as 'wildlife' so rarely. It's nearly always as food. nt

19. Wow, how did they find room to cover the seafood situation?
They've been "reporting" on the new Sex and The City movie pretty heavily.

What a freakin' joke NPR has become.

It makes me puke to listen to it anymore, with their airs of superiority.
