Sheriiff Joe Tweet
Sheriff Joe made this tweet

I plan to enforce SB1070 the day it goes into effect, & I will book into my jail rather than turn over to ICE. I will explain more in Tempe

The reality is Nr, Sheriff Joe is that immigration enforcement belongs to the Federal government and is not a tenth amendment right

The tenth amendment states

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

Immigration enformcement is power to delgated to the United States and you have no right to enforce the law as you see fit.

1. Joe has been profiling for years and doing this crap so
wow Joe am I suppose to be surprised? My question is how far would he take it outside the boundries? Joe is a jerk and criminal that should be locked up. I think Joe is going down on this D.O.J. and FBI investigation from the sources I have it is sure likely.

2. so.....
So.. if the states of Arizona and Texas announced they would no longer allow local and state authorities to enforce EPA regulations and other things that are federal what happens? What happens if the states decide they won't collect taxes for the federal government?

I mean they shouldn't be doing the federal governments job for it. Or does that only work in specific instances?

Just asking because it crossed my mind that local and state authorities are doing all sorts of things for the feds.

3. he's been in office since the early mid-90s
how come in the 90s and early 00s, he never made the news and no one outside of AZ knew who he was. In the past five years or so he's turned into an attention whore and seems to be on the news a few times a year.

Yes, "fame" can go to peoples heads.

Plus, every office should have term limits.

Just a thought

4. The states don't collect taxes for the Fed. Nor do they enforce EPA
regs.

Regardless, the AZ law is a law that cannot be enforced without "racial profiling". That is the issue.

Welcome to DU.... enjoy your short stay.

7. I am not defending the AZ law.

It is the state government that runs the tail-pipe program on the cars out here and collects a tax on tires to recycle tires, all of which comes from EPA mandates I bet.

8. In my hometown famous for 2 things
at least was for awhile, Home of Walter Payton, and the other Reichhold (not sure of the spelling anymore) plant that was found radioactive. The plant was placed under guards and only authorized accessed and the guards were Federal not state or local.

10.  There goes Joe, costing the state a boatload of unncessary spending
Edited on Sun May-30-10 02:15 AM by saracat
because he will not allow the feds to do their job. Exactly who does he think is going to pay to house these people in our jails? And the GOP have the nerve to imply social programs cost money? Joe needs to be stripped of his office and thrown in the Federal Pen for obstruction of justice .

11. +1
Only one downside to Joe going to the federal pen: They won't house him in tents in 120-degree-plus heat, they won't feed him swill, they won't make him pump his bike pedals to watch TV--and they won't make him wear pink underwear. What a shame!
