Current TV: Deadliest Journeys-Pakistan. A glimpse into the lives of the Pushtun people who
Edited on Sun May-30-10 02:16 AM by ConsAreLiars
are now being bombed and rocketed at the behest of those who have ruled the US for the past 10-30-60 years.

You can view it from the link here: http://current.com/shows/deadliest-journeys/

A trucker going way up into northern Pakistan to a small village on the Afghan border.

The doc is at one level just a combination of scenic views and reality TV with some butt-clenching "EEK!" thrown in. But at the same time it shows the people the US government is butchering in the insane expectation that fewer of them will resist.

Just people.

People far, far more like you and me - despite all the cultural, religious or other phony barriers - than the insanely greedy psychopaths which the Corporate Monsters put in charge of everything those artificial entities control.

This was the same guy who gave me a ride across Romania, the same guy who put my pack on his bicycle to assist me on an uphill trek in India, the same guy who invited me onto the bleachers at a Buzkashi contest in Kabul.

Just another ordinary human being. A human being. Just like you and me.

(edit some small thing as usual)

1. I know many Pathans here... it's not the people who are the problem...

2. Exactly. Not the problem, just the victims.
You are one of very few here on DU who has much experience living in, rather than tour busing through, non-USAn societies and cultures. Before the Carter-Reagan administrations began importing religious crazies to Afghanistan, it was moderate and trending progressive, and the people just treated other people as just other people.

3. Even religion doesn't make people violent... there are many Wahabis who live here in UAE
you might mistake left-wing (politically, not socially), pacifists...

My image of the Afghanistan (Pashtu) region will always be sharing some raisins with a shopkeeper friend that were freshly grown on his farm back in the Pashtu region of Afghanistan... They were the best raisins I have ever eaten.

4. My experiences of the people of Afghanistan were also very positive. Maybe 3-4 weeks there.
Helpful and tolerant people. Much of my journal consists of attempts to share a range of these so people here might be less influenced by the pro-war propaganda.
