18. A typo. What I meant was "application."
These days I'm on about the food chain. None of the ideas presented will mean squat if it's poisoned from the bottom, as its collapse will solve all problems.

Are you aware of the Great Pacific Garbage Dump? If not, allow me to offer:

The oceans are NOT in good shape.

About the Ocean How we wrecked/Pristine Ocean

Petroleum and its persistent, pervasive products are well on the way to snuffing out this planet's ability to support life as we know it. Here's where the rubber meets the road. What separates this BP geyser from all others is WHERE and WHEN it occurred. Murphy's Law on steroids. Those marshes are breeding grounds and stop off points for a plethora of critters who travel VERY LONG DISTANCES; like bluefin tuna who have 2 breeding grounds in the world, the other being the Mediterranian.

Now about those dispersants being #1 on my list, their continued application is nothing less than CHEMICAL ASSAULT on all living creatures. It needs to stop YESTERDAY. BP must be FORCED by the voices of the people to cease and desist immediately. This is DOABLE. TODAY. It's also a constructive way to channel the outrage and express solidarity with the people of the Gulf who seem to be getting louder. PUMP UP THE VOLUME!

2. Recommended.
Well done. This is a good list, and should lead to a good, old-fashioned DU discussion. Thanks.

3. humans more than quadrupled in less than a century
we are on a scary edge and not only will I not add to it, I'd die before I gave my innocent child the rest of this century. It will be ugly.

"Growth",, success through "More" :eyes: Traditions like that are ridiculous from now on. My successful upward-moving neighbors are pregnant with their second child. I wonder how their hearts aren't breaking at the future their children will watch. Of course, us lucky 1st-worlders will be kept safe and provided for.. so then that makes making more and more babies, while other people get wiped out, just plain Selfish.

There's no way our ballooning growth is sustainable, we've already crossed about every tipping point.

4. Turn your yard
into a green oasis. Tear up the grass lawn. Plant more trees. Plant ground covers and native plants. Living fences. Cover and breeding areas for birds. Rocky damp shady areas for toads. No pesticides!

Adapt your space to local conditions. Native plants are key. They live on the normal rainfall for your area and are adapted to the local climate. Normally they will not need additional water and require little if any care.

5. are these things "We" can do or things "I" can do?
World wide birth control is beyond my capability.

Supporting environmental groups I can do.

I could nit pick but it isn't worth it, you have a good list there (although some biofuels are not worth the energy it takes to produce them). I think it needs to be refined and rephrased a bit but I agree with the sentiment.

6. Maybe I should have said "Have fewer children" or support organizations
such as "International Planned Parenthood" and "Zero Population Growth" or any other international organizations that encourage using birth control.
Thanks for your feedback

10. that is an important point
"Save the planet" leads people to all sorts of anti-humanist positions, and anti-working class positions as we see on this thread.

13. I used to feel the same way you do until I went without meat for about a year
Now the thought of eating it makes me sick.
I think your taste buds change and you become more sensitive to what you are actually eating.

15. Yes, break up ES&S ...

Last fall, ES&S quietly purchased Diebold, giving them 80% of market for electronic voting machings. And it's not just the un-auditable vote-counting; they now also own polling place check-in software (electronic pollbooks), voter registration software and vote-by-mail authentication software.

http://www.benalexandra.com/cool_stuff/diebold_ess.htm

This link has very scary information, all with appropriate citations, regarding what could easily be a mass-manipulation of our elections.

They've already been caught registering voters who thought they were just signing petitions. Getting total registered voter numbers higher gives them more room to fudge numbers.

When you buy a pack of gum, you get a receipt. Why is there no receipt/audit trail on our votes? I can only think of one reason.

17. Put Dick Cheney in prison for life
work to end nafta/wto...it takes quite a bit of oil to get all that cheap crap from China to your local department store, and with no environmental regulations, pollution will only increase. (Thanks Al Gore:eyes:)

Stop allowing incompetent greedy evil Corporations to blame the victims of their catastrophes in an attempt to divert attention from their crimes. Hold them accountable for once so they don't do it again(which means replacing the Supreme Court)
