from the Toronto Sun:

Summit already chewing up vendors' business
By TOM GODFREY, Toronto Sun

Last Updated: May 29, 2010 7:24pm

The G20 summit is still weeks away but it’s already putting a bite on downtown food vendors.

“It’s dead down here these days,” Juan Restituto said on Friday. “Very few people are here because a lot of companies have moved their employees to other areas,” he said.

He’s been putting in long hours to earn as much as he can before he’s forced to close, Restituto said.

The area is starting to look deserted as companies have started moving staff to other locations, he said.

Restituto is one of 40 vendors who will have to move from outside the Metro Convention Centre from June 11 to 30.

They are not allowed to sell elsewhere because their licences specify a designated area.

The G20 members will be meeting at the centre June 26-27, following a G8 summit in Huntsville June 25-26.

Some banks have added extra security or plan to board up windows and ABM machines, a number of which were spray-painted early Friday.

Toronto Mayor David Miller said there’s little the city can do to compensate the vendors since the summit is a federal responsibility. ...............(more)

1. Elites could care less. These arrogant men and women could meet at an obscure outpost but instead

they need to throw away over A BILLION dollars in security so they can FLAUNT their bloated, filthy selfs right under our noses.

Go have your meeting on an isolated part of Newfoundland if it must be Canada? Albeit those good people don't deserve you either. :puke:

2. Masters of the Universe. Sheesh.
So because these important idiots from 20 countries want to hold a meeting in Toronto,
hundreds of people have to suffer loss of income?
Am I missing something?

3. They want to believe that they're actual celebrities instead of the infamous ghouls that
they really are.

Talk about selfish, out-of-touch CORPORATE PREDATOR VOODO.

The forgoing is a perfect encapsulation of the G20 soirees. :puke:

4. There's already a huge debate here on the costs of the G20
Hundreds of million of dollars being spent for 15 hours of actual meetings. And of course, that doesn't include the lost revenue of vendors in the affected area.

They should have these summits on a luxury yacht somewhere, NOT in the middle of a living, breathing city.

5. They have had meetings at the Chateau Montebello outside of Ottawa
in Quebec in the past. They should have gone there.
