The hole in the bottom of the Gulf may not close until it is good and ready to close itself. |
|
When they started drilling with a blowout preventer they KNEW was questionable, the deal was sealed. That may not have been clear to anyone when they made that fateful decision, but it is now. There was no Plan B.
So here we are, watching failure after failure by the best and most motivated minds funded by a VERY motivated corporation. Top kill, and junk shots are now well understood terms that had been insider jargon just a few weeks ago. The only remaining hope is a relief well, drilling for which is moving at a furious pace. BP want this over and they want it over YESTERDAY. But they are powerless. The Feds are powerless. Anything that anyone thought could be done has been done. Well, except for a nuke shot.
And still the oil flows. Not just flow. It gushes. At a rate that is very nearly unimaginable.
At some point the well pressure will equalize with the water pressure. The spew will reduce to a trickle. Then, maybe, just maybe, the top kill or junk shot will work. Or not.
At some point, one of two things will happen. The sea pressure will staunch the flow or the oil reservoir will simply stop spewing and go back to sleep, half filled with sea water, in a tenuous state of equilibrium.
Or not.
The Loop Current is our next prime time news story. The Keys, Cuba, the lower Atlantic coast, Long Island Sound. Cap Cod. Newfoundland, the Scilly Islands, Lands End, the Cornish Coast, Normandy.
Where will it end?
What is clear is that man is no longer in charge here.
And Mother Nature is fucking pissed.

1. It could end with the relief well but who knows? |
|
Nuking it could make it worse. Have the Russians tried to nuke a well this deep down before?

7. That is true actually.. |
|
..and there are legions of bacteria and microbes that feast off of it.
The obvious problem here is the amount of oil pouring into the Gulf is far more than the ocean can handle in this confined space, and with all the human endeavors happening in this precise area it is extremely devastating for many of us. If oil was spewing like this in the deep pacific until the reservoir was dry, we may not even notice right away. In fact, this has left me wondering how many accidents like this have happened that went unreported. I can see companies like BP drilling an exploratory well, screwing up, and just going away is if nothing ever happened.

8. Leaking and spewing are two very different things. |
|
Natural and man-made are two very different things.
Rush and Assboil are synonymous.

9. Staph bacteria is also natural and all over the place |
|
But that doesn't mean a lot of suddenly appearing in one place isn't a problem. Rush ought ot understand the analogy, given his well known medical history.
