Things continue to go to Hell. But, try to get away from it
Edited on Sun May-30-10 10:38 AM by Ishoutandscream2
My daily reading of Democratic Underground keeps me abreast of things, but quite frankly, it gets me really down. So, I'm going to play ostrich today and bury my head in the sand. I will be leaving the Underground in a few minutes. It's really hot here in North Texas, but I think I can enjoy the day by watching a little baseball on the tube and listening to some music (Beggar's Banquet is playing on the desktop as we speak). Cold beverages will be for the offering as the early noon games begin.

Maybe it's time for many of us to try to take a day off from all of this mess. Yeah, we all need to try to have some bread and circuses. All of you have a great Sunday, and try to enjoy the rest of weekend.

1. I took a bit of a break today
I watched a bunch of old '60s stuff on YouTube, including David Seville and the Chipmunks, snippets from some '60s TV shows, and my video of Yellow Submarine. For a while I was a kid again without a care in the world.

2. I've been trying to fix the float in the swamp cooler
because it really is getting to be that time here in the high desert after a prolonged, cold, stormy spring. It last snowed here in the valley at the beginning of this month.

So I'm late getting the swamper up and running. I've got it all oiled up and swept out all the mineral deposits from last year. All that remains is turning the water on, finding if I fixed the float correctly, and finding out if I can get another year out of the pump.

Still, you can't beat cooling a house for eighteen bucks a month.

It's just not much of a holiday weekend for me.

Oh, wait, I'm officially retired. Every weekend is a holiday weekend for me.

3. I took about three weeks away from DU about 2 months ago.
It shone a whole new light on the phrase "ignorance is bliss."

Enjoy your break!

4. I too find all the powerlessness in regards to the Gulf Oil Spill really hard to take.
I feel so sorry for the wildlife and fishermen and tourist industries in the gulf.
