SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- The Trans-Alaska Pipeline remained shut for a fourth day Friday as it awaited word from federal regulators that it's all right to begin operations again, the pipeline operator said.
The 800-mile oil pipeline, owned by BP Plc /quotes/comstock/13*!bp/quotes/nls/bp (BP 42.95, -2.43, -5.35%) and other oil majors, has been shut since Tuesday, when a power outage at a pumping station caused a pipeline valve to open, spilling thousands of barrels of oil.

If you read the story you will find that the oil is contained in a back-up storage facility, but geez!

I also missed this story from Huffington about the BP whistleblower who says they cheated "at least a 100 times" on blowout preventer tests.

There is a very serious pattern emerging here about BP's practices. This is what happens when regulators are in bed with the regulated and the companies are left to their own devices.
