He should've stayed somewhere in LA. And even had his family down there to vacation. It seems like when he's there, all of those people do seem a little less angry.

His advisers are great for elections, but he needs to change some people when it comes to governing.

First family enjoys sleepover in own Chicago home

President Barack Obama, right, walks in his neighborhood ... President Barack Obama, center, takes a walk with his fam... President Barack Obama waves after playing basketball at ...

(05-30) 14:20 PDT Chicago (AP) --

Good friends, good food and the comforts of his own home.

President Barack Obama enjoyed all three when he brought his family home to Chicago for a long Memorial Day holiday weekend. It was the first family's first sleepover at their red-brick home in more than a year.

Obama's only public appearance Sunday was for a roundtrip to a private gym for a workout. Top advisers also updated him on efforts to manage the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The president was due back at the White House on Monday after paying respects to the nation's war dead during Memorial Day observances at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill., south of Chicago.

Some veterans groups have criticized Obama, who has sent tens of thousands of troops into a ramped-up war in Afghanistan, for skipping the traditional wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. Obama helped lay a wreath at Arlington last year but this year has handed the honor to Vice President Joe Biden.

Obama spoke at the Lincoln cemetery on Memorial Day in 2005.

Before taking office in January 2009, Obama expressed a desire to visit his $1.6 million home in the city's Hyde Park neighborhood about every six weeks.

"Our friends are here. Our family is here. We are going to try to come back here as often as possible ... at least once every six weeks or couple of months," he told the Chicago Tribune back then.

But the demands of the presidency and his daughters' busy schedules of weekend soccer and basketball games, birthday parties and sleepovers have thwarted his intentions.

and they are entitled to visit from time to time. He should have been more 'in our face' recently, and Browner should have been, also, however.

PR is not 'governing.' That, he does well, imo.

8. NO, I disagree! Obama NEEDS to step away (even if it is not very far) to
keep his sanity and to keep his level of stress manageable!

Any lesser man would have crumbled under the weight of his responsibilities already. . .he has not because he knows how to take care of his mental and emotional stress. . .and if that means take 2 days away from the White House and the Gulf Coast to be with family and friends. . .be it!

He will come back energized and his functioning enhanced.

I think that would have been in bad form. Too much horror going on for the pres to be yucking it up enjoying himself publically. I know it doesn't make a whole lot of sense but its all perception.

He has worked his ass off since he took office. No other president has had to work so hard because no other president inherited as big a bag of crap. I don't think the guy can keep up his present pace for eight years. A good manager does not micro manage a job like the oil spill.

17. He is not on vacation, he's on a three-day weekend like many other
Americans. So sick of this crap. Last time I looked, POTUS has lost weight, looks tired and absolutely needs a break. If you had to put up with the crap he puts up with everyday, including having his daughter insulted by a cretin on the airwaves, you'd need a break too. You came to the wrong place asking us to agree with you. Wanted to see his friends, kids get to see and visit with their cousins and need to check out their home. Give it a rest for f's sake.

20. No, I don't.
Whatever he needs to do can be done from Chicago or D.C. or wherever. The one place he shouldn't be is in LA because his entourage would just get in the way and he couldn't accomplish anything there that he couldn't do elsewhere. Unless you just want a photo-op where he stands on an oily beach and bellows Bush-style platitudes through a bullhorn.

I didn't care that Bush himself wasn't in Louisiana--it was the complete and utter lack of a federal response until days after the fact that pissed me off.

And your concern trolling is getting a bit old.

36. oh give me a break, that is not true
Where should he be? I got miffed when people said Bush should have been on the Gulf Coast Coast after Katrina or at least the White House. Come on that is shallow, as if he can't get informed immediately regardless. Fact is after Katrina, his being there would have been part of the problems since we had enough trouble just getting around and the blocking off of the few streets we could travel would only add to the problem. The problem was Bush's lack of interest in resolving the problem, of his methods and even with the things needed at hand, he refused much of it.

Katrina was a different situation than this although in the same area, but with this there is too much that isn't possible to do, and far too many who knows little or nothing but suddenly became experts without benefit of knowledge of the area, it's economy or people. I don't envy anyone trying to solve this and don't think anyone could resolve it fast enough or correctly enough. The real problem is deregulation and the secret energy policy enabled this and the failure of congress to find out what was what at that time.
