Bill Clinton slams liberals at campaign rally for Blanche Lincoln
Edited on Sun May-30-10 05:46 PM by Bluebear
Via Americablog: Now that he's out there defending Goldman Sachs, what else should we really expect from him? Clinton is part of the problem with the Democratic party. That Obama picked up Clinton's old team to deliver "change" tells us where things are going. If there's a reason to have faith or trust in this same old, same old establishment who brought us here in the first place, it's not obvious. Heck, Clinton still can't accept his own deep involvement in the economic crisis.

Promoting more of the same politics of the status quo pays well. Cha-ching!

Using unusually vivid language to describe the threat against Sen. Blanche Lincoln, Clinton urged the voters who nurtured his career to resist outside forces bent on making an example out of the two-term Democratic incumbent.

He pounded the podium with Lincoln at his side, warning that national liberal and labor groups wanted to make her a “poster child” in the June 8 Senate run-off to send a message about what happens to Democrats who don’t toe the party line.

“This is about using you and manipulating your votes to terrify members of Congress and members of the Senate,” Clinton said in the gym of a small historically black college here.

He and Hillary made it clear in 2000 that they had no use anymore for the state that made them famous, when they decided they were going to pretend to be from New York.

Don't they realize that being a politician does not equate to being a leader or a representative?

Bill Clinton was DLC, has always been DLC. He is responsible for a great deal of what Bush continued and expanded. I guess he figures the American people are too dumb to know what they want or what is good for them.

10. Bill Clinton didn't mention liberals
Edited on Sun May-30-10 06:18 PM by Pakman
But hey, if you have a blog you have to find the most outrage-causing title. That way you get traffic to other blogs.

Let me direct you to an article by factcheck.org, proving that the SEIU and another union made several false claims about Blanche Lincoln, including that she has received "millions" from oil companies, when in fact the number is close to half a million; that in 2005 she voted to give oil companies $14 billion in tax breaks, when in fact the Congressional Research Service concluded that the bill INCREASED taxes slightly for these companies: http://factcheck.org/2010/05/labor-falsely-attacks-lincoln-again/

But it's not fun to slam unions when they make stuff up. Bill Clinton has always been the ultimate whipping boy for both the right and us.

Bill Clinton expressed an opinion that cannot be "proved" to be true or false. On the other hand, he unions, which I respect, did something bad: They lie in their latest ads.

17. I didn't see those ads, I already formed my opinion of Blanche
Lincoln. I don't form opinions about politicians based on political ads. I doubt too many people do. She is a DLCer from the rightwing of the Democratic Party and she is being challenged legally and democratically by a candidate who is supported by those of us who actually meant it when we said we wanted 'change'.

The Leadership of the Party thought we were just saying that for fun or something and as soon as they got to DC, with OUR help, they were back to business as usual. So, we had to move on, and are working hard to replace the DLC wing of the Party.

P.S. I agree that ads should be truthful, but so should Politicians. They should not lie about their positions on issues during campaigns and then change their minds as soon as they win. Cliinton would do well to pay more attention to the actual reasons why the base of the party has had it with the current leadership.

51. So to you, getting the figures of her pay off wrong is the same
as making up the fact that she took oil money in huge amounts? Just a half million? That makes it better in your head? Really?
So is Blanche making ads where she clears up the 'lie' and explains that she just took many, many hundreds of thousands, so it is fine? Is that what she's going to do? Of course not. So if the truth is not a comfortable tonic, I'd avoid the use of it. Your defense is that she took less than they say, not that she's clean. Go make an ad that says so.

Clinton's speech was obnoxious and pissed me off. There was no need to embellish it to induce outrage.

I just keep waiting for Blanche Lincoln to return all of her money from outside groups like the US Chamber of Commerce and the fossil fuel industry.

But that's evidently more than enough to bring out a few Clinton-haters. Sad that such emotional responses can be triggered by the thinnest pieces of fact.

What words did Clinton use as he "pounded the podium...warning that national liberal and labor groups wanted to make (Lincoln) a "poster child" - ?! Where are the quotes to prove this supposed attack on liberals?

Don't be fooled, Clinton told the gathering of about 300 at Philander Smith College. The big, national unions supporting Halter are "using you and manipulating your vote," he said.

I don't plan to hold my nose to vote for Blanche Lincoln comes November. I'd vote for Green candidate first to send a strong message to DINOs, DCLs, blue dogs that we're not going to put up with with someone like that anymore. If a repug wins, well there will be chaos before the Order. I will NOT vote for her just because she has "D" after her name. She does not vote in best interests of us The People. She *LOVES* getting money from the corporations so she votes for them. This is just as bad as me voting for a Republican if I do hold my nose to vote for her.

Clinton is trying to protect his failed ideology. He thinks trade agreements aren't the problem? Talk about out of touch! He doesn't want to own up to how damaging his Presidency was. He probably doesn't want to admit how damaging his decision to deregulate the media and mortgage industries were either.

Note how the spin grows and grows. From saying that someone is "terrifying" (i.e. scaring into doing something) members of Congress, now all of a sudden Clinton is accusing unions of engaging in "acts of terror" as in the criminal act of terrorism, which consists of killing or wounding people.

But hey, it's Bubba. Spin away.
