Anytbody watching America the Story of us? |
|
As many holes this has... anybody notices ANY similarities to today in the 1850s?
And no, don't ask me to detail all the holes in here... let's just say the jingoism is all kinds of fun though.

2. The one with John Brown and slavery |
|
it is really bad history... but I guess better than nothing.
Yes, I like a LOT MORE nuance with it, but that is a professional hazard.

4. I especially like the veritable plethora of egregiously extreme RW talking heads that continue |
|
popping up to give us a fair and balanced representation of our history. :P

|
a few other lefties...
As is, they could have gone to a few universities... and found I don't know, Eric Fonner for example....

18. The history channel use actual historians? |
|
Why, that would be like MTV actually doing music or the learning channel actually having teachers teaching stuff.
Downright unAmerican.

of Steele Commager (business historian and a tad to the right wing)
They are ahem... selective on who they interview... you will notice that it is ALWAYS the same guy.

of describing how divided the country was by the 1850s over Slavery. Mostly that one is difficult to white wash.

8. Gonna have to disagree. |

Where is the modern Bleeding Kansas?
There has been unrest in America, in some place, with some group.
I don't think we're anywhere near the build-up that happened before the Civil War.

10. History NEVER ever repeats itself |
|
100%
And the next civil war will not involve armies in the field... for many different reasons. But bloody Kansas did not come out of nothing. What led to Bloody Kansas took 25 years to develop. By the time the shooting started in the official civil war, took just over a generation to percolate.
By the way, I am serious, if you expect blue\gray to march at each other in a modern civil war, I do have a bridge to sell.

The episode that got me was the one where they showed how the men who built the first skyscrapers did it without any safety equipment.

Though I've always known they did it without safety equipment, it's still frightening to think about. I was also glad they brought up the Triangle factory fire. I read a book on that years ago, pretty horrific.
