Vermont Yankee nuke plant reports new leak containing 13 isotopes

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) -- Officials at Vermont Yankee say they have stopped a new leak that was found at the troubled nuclear plant.

Late Saturday, plant spokesman Larry Smith said a pipe leaking 13 different radioactive isotopes had been found in a pit workers were digging to find the source of an earlier leak.

He says the leak of radioactive water and vapor has been stopped and that there is no threat to public health or safety.

The 38-year-old nuclear power plant, which is located in Vernon, recently fixed a leak of radioactive tritium. Last week, while cleaning up after it, Vermont Yankee officials announced that they had found soil contaminated with strontium-90, a more potent radioactive isotope.

See my post just now in LBN

K&R

This technology had got to be stopped. It is killing us as surely as the leak in the Gulf is killing turtles. It just kills a tiny bit slower (and can kill babies in the womb) see www.radiation.org It is beuing found IN OUR CHILDREN''S BABY TEETH!!! And it is a proven killer and mutation-causing radioisotope.

You should post your OP in LBN too btw.O8)

6. Breaking News: Radioactive Fish in Vermont Near Nuclear Plant are "Common"
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=4404318&mesg_id=4404318

This is unconscionable.

I lived near Montpelier Vermont when I was in college and play on the Connecticut River sometimes (but not after what i know now).

This is beyond heartreaking and a heinous crime against humanity.

Just like BP, these bastards should be drawn and quartered, frankly (at least figuratively as I oppose the death penalty)

But these are crimes against nature

and

crimes against humanity

and they deserve life terms for those responsible.

10. Not to worry, nukes haven't killed any one in 50+ years
So the pro-nukers continue to claim and of course I just love reminding them that they continue to spew those garbage talking points on threads like these.

Nukes give us clean power.. blahblahblah
Nukes haven't killed anyone.. (recently) blahblahblah
Containment buildings will contain the dangers (until one is breeched anyway but according to 'them' that'll never happen.. blahblahblah
We need nuke energy now.. blahblahblah
Wind and solar will take too long to implement.. blahblahblah
You are scared idiots that know nothing.. blahblahblah
