Make no mistake, #BP 's #oilspill is the oil & gas industry's Chernobyl. No one will ever look at offshore drilling the same.

Sounds about right to me.

2. Sounds about right to me too...
But I fear it might be too late for our oceans, or at least the Gulf.

3. I don't give a fuck about finger pointing right now. I care about ACTION. Let's fix this thing
NOW. I don't care who does it, who "get's the credit" or whatever childish bullcrap the powers that be are concerning themselves with. Let's get some NEW experts in to try everything that BP is too incompetent to try!

5. But that just means they tighten up standards for a little while.
Once several years go by without an incident they will loosen up again until another disaster occurs.

6. Some argue that Chernobyl was behind the fall of the USSR
This doesn't bode well for Obama and the congress. People act irrationally when they are frightened.

7. I'll hazard a guess that most Americans don't give the slightest damn..
Edited on Mon May-31-10 07:35 AM by Fumesucker
It was only yesterday that someone IRL said something to me about the gusher and that was more along the lines of "I guess we'll have to vacation on the East coast of Florida instead of Panama City" than really being concerned.

Unless they are directly impacted most Americans couldn't care less about the environment.

Edited to add: I didn't make my point clearly, yesterday was the *first* time anyone IRL has mentioned the Gulf gusher to me in any way at all. I live in a red area of a red state, I long ago quit talking anything political because it only makes an already difficult life even more isolated and difficult.
