••• Who will get the blame for not stopping the oil disaster? Mr. President, "It's your Bippy." ••• |

Just a little blast from the past for those who remember the signature line of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, 1960s TV series.
In my opinion, the problem is not only in the solutions but in their execution. If BP wasn't so half-assed about everything they do, one of the solutions they've already tried might have worked by now. They cut corners everywhere. The Federal government needs to take charge of the EXECUTION of the solutions and since Obama won't do that, the problem is going to fester, he's going to get blamed and so will the Democrats in November.

I think Laugh In ran from maybe 1967 to early 70's?
I also think all moves BP has made thus far were primarily for maximizing profit, which may actually conflict with quick plugging and clean up.
We can now only speculate what the results would have been if the containment and clean up efforts were given to a "higher power" than BP at the onset.
Wait...that's not even a possibility. In this scenario, there is no "higher power" than BP.

4. Thanks. Typo. I meant to say "1960s." Now corrected in the OP. |

3. So everyone going around yelling about "smaller government" & the primacy of corporations is going |
|
to say "forget all that shit" and everyone who was listening to that claptrap is going to say "a President should not do what the people want until he should"? Yes, it's going to hurt some, but I don't think any of these two groups were going to vote for us anyway.

5. P.S. You might try hiding your glee a little bit. You'll get the Obama trashers anyway and appear |
|
more credible to the rest of us.

6. Yeah, "credible," "glee," "trashers," blah blah, Patrice.... |

Let's look at the facts.
Fact One:
Obama has been going to fundraisers in the middle of this crisis.
Fact Two:
One of the fundraisers was at the home of the Getty oil family.
Fact Three:
Obama went on vacation to Chicago.
Fact Four:
Obama has been talking like he's having a mind meld with BP and the oil industry instead of dissociating.
Fact Five:
Obama has been giving us folksy rhetoric such as about how his daughter comes into the bathroom while he's shaving to ask if he fixed the leak yet.
Aw shucks! Isn't that darling!
He's spending time with his consultants and speech writers instead of fixing the leak. He still prattles on about how we need offshore oil because he and his handlers all have their finger in the wind.
This is a political disaster for Democrats and Obama and he's not kicking ass.

7. I'm operating on the same set of information as you are and if your point is that I or anyone |

else sees what I/we want to see in these facts, well then, that possibility also applies to you, because neither one of us knows everything about this and even less yet about the future, so your evaluation has the same valence as mine.
Oh but there is a difference, your prediction is slightly more probable than mine because you are going around making that so. Another self-fulfilling prophecy gleefully enacted on the internet under a phony name. How brave of you!
When/If it happens I expect you'll be quite satisfied with yourself and, of course, all of it will be somebody-else's fault.

12. More proof of how affected by your own biases you are: you can't admit even the slightest chance |

that you might be wrong.

You went all Rowan and Martin in the OP, and that Arte Johnson reply was both appropriate and hilarious.

There are some things in life that I did commit to memory with greater dedication though. Somehow they were more important....
