Just did my first TV interview! On escaping the shadow of my father, a convicted terrorist.

Hey everyone! Just came back from doing my first ever TV interview about being the son of El-Sayed Nosair. It was for the "Navigating Your Life Show with Dr. Nat Williams" on WFMZ out of Allentown, PA. Talked about what it was like growing up in the shadow of a convicted terrorist and what it has been like trying to make my own footprint in the peace movement. Really exciting stuff! Needless to say I was nervous but pretty excited that things are moving along. Went by much quicker then I'd expected. Hopefully I didn't make too big a fool out of myself. lol It should be airing June 21st! Really excited to be experiencing all these new adventures! I'll keep everyone updated on where you can find the video online once it has aired!

Admittedly though this is all really new to me. So I'm still adjusting to being on stage or in front of a camera. Thankfully though every step of the way I have encountered amazing people who give me the confidence to keep speaking on issues of nonviolence.

22. Well...

...most of my family is great. Very supportive. Some though are anxious and paranoid about drawing attention because of death threats. It's hard having to temper a positive message when you have to worry about so many groups of people getting pissed.

With so many people making generalizations about each others character based on arbitrary distinctions I think I can help show people just because you come from from a certain background doesn't mean you have to continue along the same path.

Although I am not Muslim anymore I think interfaith dialogue is our only hope for finding reconciliation between groups that prefer to generalize about one another rather then judge a person based on their character. There are some amazing efforts being undertaken by organizations all over the world trying to eradicate those generalizations that lead to fighting between these groups. By using dialogue as a means to connect. The end goal of which is to create empathy towards humanity rather than secondary differences like race religion or sexual orientation.

...I spent the last 48 hours waiting to get nervous. I really didn't start to feel anything until about 5 minutes prior to the start of filming lol It may have been all the coffee! :) But once the interview started I got so caught up in not wanting to mess anything up I forgot about the butterflies! lol I have to admit though I am especially lucky that my amazing fiance was there with me for support! I can always count on her to be my rock.

...it was so low key. The gentleman hosting, Dr Nat Williams, was very good at making me forget I was talking in front of a camera. Even the camera men were kind and funny. I would have to say it was a perfect first experience.

and surreal to me. I have to say I feel more empowered now that I am getting my message out. It took me a long time to muster the courage to come out with my story. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. DU is good therapy! lol
