The President, once again, acknowledges serious issue with oil |

"The time has come to aggressively embrace a transition...to clean energy."
The president cannot say "We have reached the peak of global oil production." That would cause a severe panic. But he is trying to warn us about it in a "gentler" way.
We'd be wise to heed his warning.

in the intervening time between now and the day we switch to an alternative to oil? Of course we must continue drilling because if we don't, our civilization will contract and then collapse. So, which do you want?
Edited to add: The president said in the same speech today in Pittsburgh that we have to continue drilling and use the oil to transition to clean energy sources. And in doing so, he illustrates just how immediately urgent the situation is.
Also, what would be the expected reaction to discovering that world oil production had peaked and is now in decline? Well, that would be more drilling.
